I'm telling you, the Vietnamese language is just the most foreign thing in the world to me. No offense to any Vietnamese on here, but it just seems incredibly bizarre to my ears.

Am I the only one that thinks Lucy Liu is not that good looking? I mean, there's much more better looking celebrity in China than Liu, a lot more, and way better looking.

The few things I noticed arabs and southern asians improve their english by

    1. TV
    2. Music
    3. TV
    4. Movies
    4. TV

watch tv and try to speak like them, it helps,. but the best for english would be cnn or any news channel, they have the best command of the language and their facial movements are also perfect, they dont mumble or cut off words.

Take an American and put him in Germany, Austria, Sweden or France for 5 years, and he'll still be speaking English.

really? is mandarin (or cantonese) really that different from vietnamese? (assuming you are chinese like i think you are. my apologies if i'm mistaken.) they're both tonal languages, and many vietnamese words are loan words from chinese.

    interesting...

what i meant was, i know they're different, but they surely have more similarities than english and vietnamese, or english and chinese, for instance...

Vietnamese just baffles me. But my Cantonese is extremely weak (equivilent to that of "r****ded Chinese Soap Opera Characters"), and I can't understand Mandarin so maybe I'm not the best person to judge. Maybe someone that was born in China and is fluent would think differently.

Yeah I have to agree with you'll. The Vietnamese language can sound pretty harsh on the ears. I'm Vietnamese and all of my friends tell me that when I talk to my parents in our native tongue that it sounds like we're arguing even though we're not. It's weird sometimes. According to older Vietnamese folks, I speak Vietnamese with an American accent and according to older Americans I speak English with a Vietnamese accent. Someone please explain how I can have two accents?

Oh well, welcome to the BBS!

heh....welcome to the Hangout jjryulee....but unfortunately....we lost our picture posting priviledges for a while....if we are really lucky, we might get them back....eventually;)

one commment I had for you....

a good way to learn English better is to actually try your best to use it in conversation in the threads....even if you are a little unsure at first, as a community, we are pretty understanding of someone who is trying to interact using a language that they are not fluent in....so feel free to post anyway...Im sure you have some opinions you wold like to share...

I refuse to sit still while you bash Americans. In case you can't see me, I'm fidgeting in my seat as we speak.

sorry ,i dont know how to post image.this is the pretty girl link:
    http://www.ehulu.com/photoshop/kellyhu.htm
but kellyhu looks not standard chinese girl that maby zhang ziyi is more closely.i dont like zhang ziyi .and all my chinese friends think she is ugly.do some of you like her?if you wanna a chinese girl friend, please come china .if you have a high nose and blue eyes, you will win the favor of a lot girls.
and IMO most of blonde looks samely.
in china a girl star no bamboo telegraph and chaste and traditional is more popular, but in USA and Europe that is opposite .just like the Madonna,Britney ,Halle Berry, jordan(England),more sexy more popular.
now here ,in chinese wuhan time is 10:51,the time of USA possibly is evening.maby now you are sleepping.
when i listen to the english radio,i have a puzzle:how to tone sentence, even if i know how to pronounce every words.
    for example:
which words ought to be emphatic?
    / -- / /
    nice to see you?
    or another tone:
    / -- \ \
    nice to see you?

I think most would probably say the emphasis would be on "nice"...but even over here....some people pronounce it differently depending on what area of the country they are from.

as of right now(Houston time)....it is a little after 10pm....but you will still find people on here into the early hours of the morning(after midnight)...but obviously, not as many as now...alot of us do have to work in the morning.
