I see your point. To be honest, I'm not real familiar with plays specifically desgined to get a three without threatening a two. Also, I was thinking more about the play Rafer ran in which he was fouled then the last play of the game. However,as far as the last play goes, I have watched games in which a team is down three and the draw and kick works because the defense can't stay disciplined enought to stay at home. In fact I think I've seen the Rockets lose a couple that way over the years.
DD- I told you when yao should get it and when he shouldn't. When he has that bounce in his step, he's ready, but when he looks passive, try something else. That said, with the players last night, he shouldve made himself a target. That last play, yao wanted no part of the ball. Rafer was looking for something or someone, but yao just stood almost out of bounds.I wouldve liked for him to dive in, get the ball and shoot. Instead he was looking, grabbing his shorts.
One play? Come on Leeb, you are nitpicking and you know it. He played GREAT last night......he may not be Hakeem or all world, but he is good enough, with the right mix of talent around him. You, of all people, know his shortcomings are in evidence late in games......his lack of presenting a good target, his slow reaction time, his inability to establish good position against smaller stronger players..... It is what it is...that doesn't make him unclutch, it means he needs help. DD
Yes I trust him. He's had great 4th quarters. He's had good 4th quarters. He's had okay 4th quarters. He's had horrible 4th quarters. Just like every Superstar in the NBA has had.
DD- I never said "unclutch" and I never pick 1 moment either. Watching the game, u can tell when yao wants it and when he doesn't. Last night, he made 2 good passes to landry and took 4 j's. On the J's, he settled by letting his man push him off his spot. I've seen games where he made the refs call a foul. Last night, he was a jumpshooter deluxe.
I honestly think Yao isn't aggressive at the end of the 4th qt. because the refs ref him inconsistent. He was already in foul trouble so I'm guessing he didn't want to pick up a foul on the offensive end. We know the refs have called some bad calls on him when he has tried to post up. I simply think he is confused because of how he is officiated. He just needs to adjust somehow.
You have to admit, he is limited in that if they are sending a guard to "Dig" the ball as he dribbles he is in trouble. If you recall Dream shot a TON of fadeaway dreamshakes......in fact that was his signature move, because Dream had the same problem, he had a lot of turnovers from people digging the ball out. I agree, sometimes Yao wants it, and sometimes, he fades.....last night, he did not fade.....but Rafer did.... DD
Exactly. He just cant see how many times this big guy was doubled in 4th quater and how many assists he gave to his teamates in 4th quater. Come on! Basketball is a TEAM game.
time to time, depend on how tired yao is and how hot he is. Also, how the other team it's playing him. I think a more fitting title or thread would be it's yao clutch not do you trust him, because since tmac is out, he is our my main guy or our go to guy. Our offense, most of the time go through him.
Yao Ming can just only score and maybe rebound a couple. But his basketball IQ compared to other great big men is horrible. LIke Pau Gasol, Duncan, or Garnett. I think Yao is very questionable at times. LIke the game against the Lakers in the 4th when we were down 3 with 7 secs left and Yao took a fade away and miss horribly.
Why not? People only picked up some of his horrible 4th quarters performance. How about his seasonal 4th quarter average? According to 82games, Yao is by far the clutchest player in the team. So next when you talk, show the data! Yes,I do.He may never be a closer like Kobe, but until we got a healthy T-mac back,Yao is the best option we have on the team right now.

He goes from being a 50 to a 40 percent shooter while being assisted 46% of time. His a/to ratio in this period is 1/6. That is not going to get it done. We really need Tmac or someone to step up during this time. Just like Kobe took over in the 4th we need a guard to step up. For comparisons sake kobe is shooting over 50% from the field and 75% 3-pt during clutch time, but I don't think we need to look at stats to tell us kobe is real good in the clutch.
