that's funny because ive been ordering alot of takeout lately and i was wondering the same thing last night. i got a bunch of restaurant gift cards for x-mas so ive been using them up.

no i dont tip them. and yes i do notice the tension once they give you the receipt to sign.

Don't tip those mofos. The real question is, should you tip beer girls? Alls they do is hand you a beer. They don't mix anything. I don't. I bet their boobs throw you geeks off though.

My rule is if they smile, I leave a tip. If they don't smile, I don't leave a tip.

If you don't tip, don't expect them to get you another one.

I always leave a tip. Usually about $1-$3 depending on the bill

You tip the bartender if you are just buying beers. So why not for the beer girls? Especially when they are providing eye candy for you as well.

I tip the sonic girl some change. They are doing some work bringing it to my car. However, if I go through their drivethrough, I won't tip.

And I always tip the bartender/beer girl. You treat em good enough and you get better service. But that's a different scenario altogether.

Read SirCharlesFan's post. I had a friend that worked at an establishment with this type of service. They get paid like they are waiters/waitresses and no different.

I usually reach in and grab it myself.
F this eye candy business. Hell, I am her eye candy. If you mix me a nice generous cocktail then I will empty out my wallet no problem.

And here lies the real problem - I guarantee you most people would never know if a bartender put their order together on a takeout. If they did, they would probably tip a buck or two, just because that isn't something he or she normally does. I disagree with the waitress though; I mean that is her normal job duty - to get food from the kitchen/chef and bring it to you. The only difference is that she is not coming back to you several times to re-fill your drink nor are you spending any actual time sitting down in that restaurant.

Last September, the mrs. and me went to the Ryman to see Interpol and we were running late. We stopped at the Olive Garden (one of her favorite restaurants) and after waiting close to 40 minutes, sat near the bar. The actual bartender waited on us and got our food out faster than I have ever experienced. The meal cost 40 bucks, but I tipped him 20 bucks. The reasons being is that he understood we were on a tight time schedule, got our food out extremely fast, and was doing a function that wasn't a part of his normal job responsibility plus him waiting on us could hurt him getting tips from people at the bar.

So, yea if I know the takeout person is the same person running the bar, I would give them a buck or two but not if it is some waitress because once again, that is what she normally does all the time - bring people their food.

Lots of bars have girls scattered around selling beer out of a cooler. In place to avoiding the bar, saves time.

Only if I pay in cash. The Austin/San Antonio area Sonics don't have the ability to accept tips on credit cards. The same franchisee owns all of them and they had some abuses at a few of their locations. So, they took the line off of the receipt.

I read his post and sorry but that's BS or at best, faulty logic. I used to work at a credit union making 6.75 an hour as a teller (eventually moved up to loan officer and a sterling salary of 9.56 per hour  ). I provided a service, worked for the public, and handled money. Considering my low base wage rate, I should have gotten tips from various people because I was able to "correctly" handle their withdrawals, deposits, and check cashing. I mean can't you see how ridiculous that sounds?

I am aware of this, but honestly, I think it's 'part of the job'...their base salary isn't my problem- it's their choice. I tip for good service at a resturaunt, not someone bringing me food once. If some food runner brings me food and it's not the same person I'm waiting on, I don't tip them both.
