No, not this year. We're not gonna win it all this year anyway.

Big Yes for me. Long term, not good. But heck, we need to win now.

anything would like a combination of TE/MoT/1st rounder for a combination of Rafer Alston/DM/Rose?

it just seems we can have more combinations that might work with the raptors...

I would give up our 1st rounder for JARIC in a second.

I would be willing to give up the first rounder if we could also lose one of our bad contracts. If it's for the trade exception, I say no.

I'd definitely trade our first rounder for payton. I don't see him logging in alot of minutes but that is why we have sura to back him up. I'd love for our team to have a veteran star seriously stand as our leader and calling the shots. I think Sura will eventually come back but looking at our bench.... Oh man...looking at our bench.... ::pukes:: Bring in the glove and let's not waste our time drafting a pg that we will most likely not use and have sitting on the bench. JVG loves using veterans. Reece Gains hasn't seen minutes, Andre Barret hasn't seen minutes. Bring a Vet that can actually do some damage and get riddy of Stricky.....

if its for payton, no way do i trade a first rounder. This draft is pretty deep, i think the rockets can get a pf like wayne simien with about the 18-22 pick or a pg like jaret jack...the only way i trade a first if its after 06'.

As much as I wish differently, you know the front office is inept when it comes to draft decisions. The Rockets will draft some "prospect" and he will never even put on a Rockets uniform or play one single game for them. It's the way it always is with this team.

Those names were just hypothetical examples. You would think that after Rod Strickland, people would be a little gunshy about getting players not just on the wrong side of 30 but on the wrong side of 35, Payton turns 37 in July. No I don't want to trade a 1st pick for him. Check out the name of this thread, it may be a Freudian slip but thats what we would be doing

THROWING AWAY A FIRST ROUND PICK FOR PAYTON

No, hell no. Payton is crap. Remember how Stevie ran circles around Payton in last year's playoffs? I certainly do.

I am very afraid of having Sura out of the lineup for an extended time, though. We might need someone else by way of trade, just not GP.

Ha yeah, I hear ya there. On the other hand, the last thing we need is the opposing team going to the line during crunch time because Payton drew a tech. But hey, if an attitude like his wore off onto Yao, that alone could add 10 points a game to Yao's ppg.

This is a point worth repeating. If we keep the 1st round pick instead of using it now to help us, mark my words:

The front office is inept when it comes to draft decisions. The Rockets will draft some "prospect" and he will never even put on a Rockets uniform or play one single game for them. It's the way it always is with this team.

There are a lot more Joe Fortes and Brandon Armstrongs than Arroyos and Dickaus (who aren't that hard to get, anyway- Dickau is an UFA this offseason if you're interested).

Great comparison- a guy who was on 10-day contracts and was a part time player for the last 3 years anyway to a guy still putting up 12-6-3 on 45% shooting. For this year, and maybe another year or two in the future (if we liked what we had), Payton is still effective.

It's not Sura's numbers this team is missing, it's Sura.

I am hesitant to part with our 2005 1st round pick. But NIKE does bring up a good point that if Spanoulis and Badiane are in our plans for next year is the 1st round pick as important in the larger scheme of things? I dont know. Only CD knows how Spanoulis and Badiane are doing and if they are on schedule to produce for us next year. I clearly agree we need to get younger guys so either they are it or we keep the 1st rounder.

But something to consider.....Detroit when they acquired Arroyo, the gave up their 2006 1st rounder. (although I think they HAD to give up their 2006 and not their 2005 since they already traded their 2004 pick and cant move consecutive years picks)

Would you guys be willing to give up our 2006 1st rounder for a PG? Be it Payton, Mike James or whoever?

That would allow us to add a stop gap PG for this year AND still keep our 2005 1st rounder.

If Detroit could offer their 2006 1st rounder why not us?

One thing I DO know, Strickland and Barrett at PG is NOT going to get it done. If we cant make a roster move here, I think there is a SOLID chance we could be on the bubble of making the PLAYOFFS! Our schedule is rough coming up. We have no room for error and now are out with Sura? This could get ugly!

Ainge has been holding out for a #1 pick in return for Payton but as the deadline comes closer I wonder if it'd be possible to get him for the TE. It would certainly be better than losing Payton for nothing and it's relatively certain he will not be returning to the Celtics.

If we must give up a first rounder to get him, I just don't know. I'd be excited about the rest of the season but frightened that it was a mistake. Right now nbadraft.net has us landing John Gilchrist in the draft. That would be pretty nice.

In short....I wouldn't mind if we traded our first round pick for somebody but I do not think that GP is the guy. He is a bit old and we stand to have more upside with a young guy from the draft.

Matt Carroll is apparently tearing up the minors. Bobcats apparently ready to sign him. He's had a coupla cups'a joe. Is he, young and barely ready, a better fit (see Dickau et al) than an aged retread?
