Rafer is not a great leader by no stretch of the imagination!
He is not a floor general - he doesn't control the plays and he certainly is not a playmaker type Point Guard!
I do however think if it is rammed into his head, he can be a solid contibutor to the 08/09 Rocket's Team :p

Maybe a minor trade or two.... contract dumps, etc... But I expect a bigger deal b4 the trade deadline *(ie A PG that can shoot from the perimeter and stay offa the police blotter)

So what do you call that person who sets the plays into motion? Because thats what he did last year and if you disagree with that then you didn't watch any games. It was he who was orchestrating plays. It was he who was getting people back on defense.

Yes I do agree he isn't a passing playmaker which is why I said time and time again he needs to work on the attitude of passing. What the heck do you think floor general means? That he is the best player??? Dude, cmon now. It just means he is keeping the movement fluid.

Last year, we didn't have a legit 3rd scorer but now we do. Even a 4th scorer in Scola. But last year it was expected of Rafer to be a high contributor to the score board. This is the reason why his shooting percentage is down. If Yao or Tmac wasn't on the floor it was he who was getting the attn. Now all he has to do is rack up more assist. Keep the same assist to turnover ratio if not better. Shoot the open shots just to make the defense not able to leave him open therefore doubling Artest or Tmac or Yao. And umm Rafer can hit those open shots no doubt.

Word. In addition, I have it on good authority that we are shipping Glen Rice off to the Jazz..but keep that on the d/l for now...

LOL, let me ask you something. If you was on the other end of the table would you accept this deal? I wouldn't.

Also after seeing how weak Livingston knee's'/ankle's are why would we want to spend money on that when we already have 2 injury prone guys? Smart.

I didn't expect the last 3 trades, so I sure as hell don't expect more. But how much more can be done without having Landry signed?

I have seen every game of the Rockets which included Rafer Alston.
To answer the question-- The person who sets the plays into motion is called Tracy McGrady. Rafers main function has been to dribble the ball down the court and pass to McGrady. McGrady ether sets himself up for a shot or sets up anothet play . Rafer is not the leader on the Court, McGrady is!
Rafer has never demanded all the attention, because his shooting percentage is so poor! To rack up more assists Rafer is going to have to make a 180 degree turn about in his playing psychology . He will have to become the main baller handler and become determined to find the open shooter. To do this of course he will have to know all the plays in the playbook and how to execute them from a playmaker's point of view. :p

He will have to make considerable improvement in his ability to pass to Yao Ming. This has been one of his greates difficulties. Y

What we need now is exactly a backup center , as dorsey is fresh and undersized ,deke is just opposite to fresh even though he has size . As a veteran who has played in NBA for 16 years , deke can be called a legend but he may no longer be as good as he used to be even in the years in houston. In case of yao's injury , morey should get another valid center other tahn yao . As long as battier is not as necessary as he used to be before artest's arrival , morey may trade battier for a good center that can contribute as much as shane can do . I know it's hard to find another guy as good as battier yet earns that low salary battier earns .But I still wish morey use his magic again and land a big center on toyota center . I wish the rockets wilcox who is simply a beast .
