i think we fell apart already and 2-3 picks from Brooklyn wont change that. Only Wemby/Scoot have a SHOT at attracting other great players to play with them and turning this pos team around
It's only one protected 2027 first rd pick (the other pick they received was a 2022 pick that was already used). A protected 2027 pick and a 2029 pick isn't gonna net you some amazing return, and especially not for another star. If KD is gone, that Nets team is gonna be absolute trash. And unless they get a top 10 player in return for KD in a trade, no player can carry that team out of the lottery.
I think the trade made them more stable honestly. Their ceiling dropped but the floor kinda raised. They'll at least be mediocre now which might be ok for us but won't exactly net a golden ticket like we hope. We just have to hope that KD gets pissed at some point and bolts.
Yep, and for us the variance in the pick ranges probably stabilizes which might not be a bad thing in regards to trades which I think has always been the reason why Stone valued those picks. If we are bad, OUR PICKS will always be the top value. If we are good, we are trading those picks for a second, or third star. If the Nets are a contender it'll always shift opposing GM's to trying to maneuver for our picks instead of the Nets picks in trade talks. A little less variance, and more predictability might actually help with whatever Stone wants to do with them anyways. This isn't really an organization that really cares about draft range anyways. The fact that Stone is forcing Nix on us for damn near 40 minutes a game while a first round pick from this year sits on the bench tells you all you need to know about this team's though process on draft picks. The Nets picks were always trade chips. Our high lottery picks in 21, 22, and 23 are all that really matter in regards to the draft.... at least from Stone's perspective.
They're not going to fall apart, they have depth now and some draft things to use to acquire players in the offseason, and KD trade demand didn't work the first time. This is just all wrong, as usual. The "Mavs pick they got" is in 2029, a season for which neither Kyrie nor Doncic is under contract. It's probably pretty valuable. It's also likely the Nets will use it to add to their current nucleus in a trade rather than waiting till 2029 to exercise it.
I still dont think the Nets are going to suck enough for these picks to be viable, they are too smart of an organization.
Anyone would do that it tbh. Anyone. If Covid/injuries do not happen, then they win like 3 titles lol. Like they are going to do their best not to bottom out.
It's amazing to think this team could've contended for a ring this year had they kept Kyrie and Durant together. They've still got the 7th best record in the league despite the injuries and shenanigans. Yet... they had to blow it up. So crazy.
It imploded just as some of us believed it would. Harden was the first, some thought Kyrie or Durant would be the first.
