    This is a flawed poll...

Your question says...Do you think rockets have a chance to be #1 seed of west?

But then every answer has the words "will be" as in 100% that option. Not much of a chance game!

With that being said, as I previously stated in other threads the Rockets do have a chance of winning their division and a chance of being the numero uno seed in the West. But also the Rockets have a chance of being stuck at the 7th seed as well. There is also a good chance that we will have home court advantage over the 4th seed in the West through out the playoffs which will come from the Northwest division. That's a good thing because Utah and Denver are great at home and have losing records on the road.

Here are some interesting stats... (only comparing Mavepricks vs. Rockets)

    - # of games remaining
    Houston: 27
    Dallas: 27
    - # of home games remaining (# of these home games vs. team with record above 0.500 / teams with record above 0.650)
    Houston: 15 (5 / 4)
    Dallas: 15 (7 / 4)
    - # of road games remaining (# of these road games vs. team with record above 0.500 / teams with record above 0.650)
    Houston: 12 (8 / 4)
    Dallas: 12 (9 / 4)
    - # of back-to-back games (# of these b2b games where 2nd team has a record above 0.500)
    Houston: 6 (5)
    Dallas: 5 (1)
    - # of games against Eastern Conference opponents (# of these against teams with a record above 0.500)
    Houston: 7 (1)
    Dallas: 7 (1)

So whats the point of this comparison... to answer this question...

Can we pass Dallas in the standings?

The answer is yes...our schedule is quite comparable! The only thing hurting us is our back-to-back schedule where we play against tougher opponents.
The other aspect not in our favor is a tough stretch in our schedule. The toughest sequence in the Rockets schedule is (LAL, BOS, @NO, @GS, @PHX) in five days. The Mavepricks toughest stretch would be either (@LAL, @UT, HOU) in five days or (LAL, BOS, SA) in six days. Basically if we can come out of that tough stretch winning three games out of five. Working to our advantage is that we have an easy home court schedule compared to Dallas.

We stand a good chance, otherwise, we will be stuck at the seventh spot in the rankings of the wild wild west. Enjoy...more stats like this can be found here

Lakers are going to take the 1st seed. That Pau Gasol trade pushed them over the top. They are so much better now.

The playoffs are going to start early this year in the West, like in March. The standings for the West are so compressed right now that all of the contenders are going to bring it. Expect to see a lot of games in the coming month that feature the intensity of tonight's game vs. the Hornets, or the game between Phoenix and Boston.

It's going to be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to seeing some good basketball.

well, the other thread stating the rockets have no chance at making the playoffs became disastrous. so let's hope this thread will keep everyone's moods up (not that a 11 game winning streak isn't already doing that).

Right now, New orleans may be miss the playoffs b/o the difference is so small, and Spurs, Suns, Dallas are more steady when they meet tough tems.
If we are consistant as we have done sice last two months, we definitely have the chance to win the No.1 seed in west conference.
    Go, Rockets!

we have the chance ,but in fact we don't need to do so
every team in the West is hard to deal with
you choose 1# hornet or 8# denver or 9# warrios?hard to decide.......

I think at the rate the Rockets are going, we might just barely inch into the fourth seed. If we continue this streak with only a few losses.

If the Rockets are considered just as good and match every Lakers win, we would still miss the 1st seed. It's just math. :)

Utah might lose tonight. Denver lost, and NO lost.

We have a really good chance.
