So your theory is that when he says in press conferences Mr. Alexander doesn't want to tank, even though he (Morey) personally believes tanking is the best way to get better - he's actually lying, so he's secretly defying Les by not tanking, and compounding it by telling lies about leslie in public? Very interesting theory - yes I'm sure it merits a further look.
the sad reality as a rockets fan when you realize that the last 3 years of swimming in mediocrity were wasted hoarding trash instead of "assets".
The issue i believe with Morey is that he is considered money ball to the rest of the NBA gm's, so why would you as another gm want to deal with him? he was built up as this stat guy with the education to back it, so why would you deal with him if you felt you were getting the bad part of the deal? to me he may be that person but if it keeps teams from trading with us, than i am all for getting another gm in here. Are only trade partners have been sacremento and memphis during his time here and look at those trades? im starting to feel like the rest of this board maybe its time for a change.
You do realize that Morey is not the only GM who utilizes advanced statistics to assist in his basketball decisions, correct?
Could we pressure the org to fire Morey? I am not exactly for firing Morey because he is a great talent scout and value drafter but I do feel it might be time to get some new blood in the GM seat to see what we can do. So, in theory....how can we get Morey fired if Les wont do it tomorrow? Billboard? Giant mailing campaign? Online petition? Picket Line? Ticket Renouncing?
Morey tried. Other GMs didn't bite. It's not as if Morey just sat twiddling his thumbs while others made the three picks. /thread.
For all of those calling for Morey's head, could one of you please suggest who you would suggest Les hire as Morey's replacement and why?
teams wouldn't let him fleece them so that constitutes "trying"? some (most) folks just fail to accept the possibility that he may be in over his head and have no idea what he's doing/how to build a team.
his eye for talent is great, but he needs to persuade Alexander to tank and rebuild which alot of people on this forum have suggested long ago.
This is everything that is wrong with the media right now. Everyone makes a big story about stuff their "sources" said, and everyone starts to get their hopes up that something big happens. Then when it doesn't, everyone is pissed and asking for Morey's head. If the media hadn't reported a single thing about the Rockets all week, everyone would feel a lot different about this draft. For me? I love the Royce White pick. I thought the Jeremy Lamb was really good value there. I'm not a big fan of Terrence Jones, though, but oh well. It was a good draft. I would have loved to have moved up in the top 8, but I also think it's completely ridiculous to expect it, regardless of what the media has been tweeting all week.
Actually, that's what he did... LOL... This is how it went down: Les: OK, Daryl, I will contact ESPN, Rotoworld, Hoopsworld, etc... and give them each a copy of this transcript, you just read what the teleprompter says in making it sound like we'll be getting "X" player, OK buddy? Daryl: Hey rockets fans! We'll be going HARD after Dwight Howard AND Josh Smith and trade Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin and possibly Luis Scola in order to change this team around into a contender for the NBA Championship! *Daryl Gives thumbs up to Les, Les gives thumbs up to Daryl* Daryl continues on: Daryl: "Expect something HUGE come draft night... Hold onto your seats, Rockets fans!!!" *NBA Draft on ESPN starts* Rocket Fans: D-12! D-12! D-12!! David Stern: "With the 12th pick.... 16th pick... 18th pick... the Houston Rockets select..." Rocket Fans on ClutchFans: WTF??? GRRRR!!!! Daryl and Les (after draft): Hahahaha! We sure got them good huh? *high fives* fooled them again... What is my point? They are crying "wolf!" "wolf!" "wolf!" when there is no wolf (or in this case, a superstar coming to the rockets) After awhile, we won't believe that any talent will be coming to Houston and we'll want another GM and Owner to direct the direction of this team to get better, even if that means tanking and rebuilding like that of OKC.
