I was once told -- and I generally ascribe to this -- that people who don't trust others are likely not trustworthy themselves. Being trustworthy is something I want to be so, to project and to encourage that, I place trust in many people who have done nothing to earn it. I've gotten burned a couple of times but it doesn't faze me.
