If you bothered to read the title of the F'N thread it says "Do you still Hate JVG" NOT, Do you think he is the best fit to coach the Rox. I do not hate JVG, but do I think he is the best coach for the Rox?..Hardly. LOL
I like the sound and ring to that tune...... 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years! 4 more years!
I never hated JVG, I would have to know him personally to do that, but I don't like him as coach of the Rox. I'm an anti-JVG'er but I have to admit it looks like he's turning things around and if he bring the Rox success I'll happily eat a 10 piece bucket of crow extra-crispy.
I don't hate him, but I don't like his way of coaching, strong discipline that kills talent and creativity.
I used to be a JVG backer, but starting Ryan Bowen along with other issues ticked me off. Now I'm a fence rider monitoring his coaching. The offense, the roster management, making the playoffs and Yao's development are among the key factors I take into consideration. Meanwhile, if a better coach is available I'll have no problem replacing JVG. Don't hate him, don't like him much either. Like Les said:" I thought he was a great coach."
When did I say anything about firing JVG and bringing Rudy back? No doubt, I would love Rudy to come back but I know that JVG will at least finish out the season and will most likely be here at the start of next season. The FACT is that JVG hasn't had a good track record with developing young players. And you're right, we see what we get with JVG and he is a good coach. But there is still no doubt in my mind he isn't the best fit for Yao/TMac. IF PJ or Rudy T is up for grabs this summer, which I doubt Rudy will be, I think the Rockets should jump on the chance.
i never hated him. jvg works like a dog, and i admire that, but it would be nice to see a lighter side with the players once in a while. i was against rudy getting canned here, but jvg will have his chance to succeed at least the next year or two...
I'm probably the only one here with this take, but I'd take JVG over anybody except Rudy. With our current squad, I'd go: 1. Rudy 2. JVG 3. Del or Donnie or someone else who doesn't have a gig now but knows how to coach 4. L. Brown, Pat Riley, et al 5. Phil Jackson Sorry, I just don't care for the guy that shows up whenever a team's ready to win, gives some motivational speeches and pushes them over the edge. I think this team would do better with a players coach than a defense first task master, but I don't undervalue JVG's understanding of the game. I'd take him over anyone who doesn't inspire loyalty and confidence like Rudy does. Next I'd take someone who combines an understanding of the game with an appreciation of the fact that the players make it happen (my #3 options). After that, I'd take some different flavored smart taskmasters. My last choice would be an ego driven, it's all about the coaching sort like Phil Jackson. Rudy's not coming back here and that's a natural fact (I hope I'm wrong), so I'm happy with Van Gundy.
I think it's interesting how people hate him (not you Gucci, I read your disclaimer), but I think if they were pressed to come up with better available coaches they'd have a really tough time. It just seems weird to think that so many "Rockets" can hate the guy when he's a better coach then the majority of coaches in the league and also available coaches. I agree that just because JVG plays inside out does not necessarily equal developing Yao better. But I don't think that falls so much on the coach. Great NBA players develop into such no matter who is coaching them. Jordan, Hakeem, KG, Duncan, etc. Whether it's Van Gundy or Tim Floyd or Phil Jackson, it does not matter with these guys. I don't think it should be different for Yao. If he's going to be great it shouldn't matter who coaches him.
Still hate him (n.b. "hate" being in the context of disliking his coaching style) though I can appreciate his effort to "update" his coaching style.
People are afraid of the word "hate". However in this context, it's just a "keep him dump him" vote. People are also afraid of change. So you have plenty of cowards on the "don't hate" side. The truth is though, that he's a horrible fit and fear never led anybody to a championship.
Now that i look at the i totally worded the post WRONG! Its deffenatly my falt! Ohh well i wish i would have said somthing along the lines of Is he a good fit now, yes or no. Oh welll maybe after the allstar break is up ill give it another try
Fair enough Shawn - I will look forward to taking part in that. But for what it is worth, this thread tells us something. Batman, I am with you and that take. Rudy is still beloved - my only problem with him is that he allowed Francis to become his demise.
