    Never ever smoked a cigarette

Don't really drink... less than one drink a month

But I've smoked doobie for 34 years...and counting

So that seems to be going pretty well.

I smoked American Spirit Light Menthols for a while, until I started waking up wheezing every morning. I've since switched to a new brand of ciggies called Eclipse. They supposedly reduce the risk of cancer by 70 percent, and I've been breathing much easier since.

I hope to quit soon. I've tried the gum and the patch with no luck, but I've gotta give it another go. Smoking costs me too much money, and I'm sick of the horrific guilt I feel every time I light up.

Good luck to anyone trying to quit.

    **puff**

I tell you, it is hard to quit while being a fan of the Rockets. Following them practically requires me to smoke.

I smoked cigarettes pretty heavily until right before my 22nd b-day. Those dang filterless cigarettes in Mexico almost killed me. I quit cold turkey and haven't had any tobacco in over six years. I drank lots of water, brushed my teeth and chewed wintergreen gum everytime I had the urge to smoke a cig. I quit drinking around the same time, but still have a cervecita de vez en cuando. I've yet to give up the mota. One puff a day sure beats a pack a day, though. :)

I have only ever "smoked" one cigarette...to elicit a round of laughs from a bunch of (drunk) friends decades ago. Unfortunately, I have been a musician (full and part time) for over 30 years and I'm sure all that second hand crap hasn't been too good for me.

I figured out very early on in life (as a pretty decent HS athlete) that I had much more stamina and endurance than my teammates or friends that smoked. It was a no brainer from there.

I smoked more than a pack a day for like 6 years. Mostly camel lights/marlboro lights, but for a while I was smoking the filterless Camels. Talk about lung oysters! I haven't, however, had a cigarette in more than 7 years.

Quitting was the best thing I ever did for myself. I think more clearly and I don't get sick. I quit by using the patch, (and almost had to start smoking again to quit the patch :) ). The key is that smoking cravings trigger from two sources, the actual nicotene as well as the ritual of taking out the cigarette/lighting it/smoking it. The key to the patch is to decouple these two stimuli. Slap the patch on and find something else to fiddle with/put in your mouth. I also ended up using the patch for much longer than recomended in order to completely decouple these two things.

Menthols are not gay. They are Kool.

And Maynard's wrong. Lights (depending on the brand) are usually lower in tar (and I think nicotine as well).

I've never smoked, and any temptation to officially ended when I saw my dad puke blood in the sink when I was 20. We were at our surfside beach house and he was feeling dizzy all day. I thought I was going to lose him right there. That scared me a little.

He now chews Nicorette, but I think he abuses that too much. The goal is to eventually stop, and he hasn't dont it yet.

I never smoked cigs, never wanted to, especially after watching my Mom try to quit numerous times when I was a kid. She's in her 50s and has been smoking for nearly 40 years, but I'd never ask her to quit. I saw what a challenge it was, and because of the hassles of her job (she was/is the breadwinner for our family) in that crazy IT world, I recommend she light a few up.

My Dad smokes, uh, 'other' types of things. The things you have to buy the little papers for.

Never had any interest in either, everytime I've tried to smoke weed, I must be a got-damn liberal, because I couldn't inhale. Completely incapable, at age 23, of taking smoke into my lungs. I loves me the cheap cigars every so often, especially after the NBA season ends, but only because I don't have to take in the smoke.

My two roommates (who are a couple) smoked for a good chunk of their 30 years before quitting last March. Essentially, the way they quit was to stay on the phone with each other while at their respective jobs and talk each other out of nic fits. Together, they pulled it off. Amazing an admirable.

And, as you'd guess, they quit all the stuff they'd associate smoking with. They quit drinking (the guy in the couple was as much of a juicer as I am) and some illegal stuff to. Gave up all libations. Not as much fun any more, and I feel like an arse when I come home from bars and work smelling of smoke, but those two pulled it off. God bless 'em.

Oddly enough, two months ago, they started smoking the weed as a novelty/joke thing. They hadn't touched it since a couple of pulls back in college, but as a ha-ha, they made a habit of it. Very odd.

    What's wrong with Menthols?

I think the gayest are the Marl Ultra Light Menthols...

Anyway, I've smoked since I was legal and never more than half a pack a day. It's not like I need it, but in times of stress, it's always a smoke and a few good shots of 151 to calm the nerves. Even though the health risks are there, in today's world, everything is detrimental to your health. EVERYTHING gives you cancer, peanut butter, red meat, smoking, etc. Might as well die doing something you enjoy and not trying to extend your life an extra 2 minutes.

On another note: What's your favorite brand, drummer and everyone else? I personally like Marl Reds and Menthols. I've tried Camels and thought they were too...I don't know, I didn't like them. Dunhills are supposed to be good, btw...

I smoked and enjoyed it 14-24. It was terrible for me. I made myself sick several times. I quit for my wife. Quitting was humiliating and dirty. I threw all the cigarettes away one weekend. That didn't last. I remember pulling the butts out of the trash can to get a smoke. I looked at myself in the mirror sticking the dirty butt covered with coffee grounds in my mouth. I didn't like the picture.

    Much better now.

Been smokin' a pack and a half a day since 74. When I got lucky and started working from home it went up to 2 packs REALLY quick.

I now order bulk tobacco/tubes online (3 cartons for $26) and roll my own (using a machine)...and only roll one at a time as the need hits me. So, I'm down to a pack again.

But, I'm an avid scuba guy, run triathlons/marathons, and bike the trails when I can...doing my best to compensate.

Also, a huge fan of juicin' my veggies and blending my fruits.

Christ, I'll do ANYTHING to compensate for this habit of mine. I really do wish to quit one day though. My dad quit (huge surprise) after a medical scare.

    YES! I WANT TO QUIT.
