Do you really think an 8th seed is embarrassing in the West? LOL.

    But you did respond?

Personally, I think its about that time to rebuild. I don't think this team is a seriously title contender (barring some ridiculous trade)

So yes, I'd rather have the chance at drafting a really good player and growing. Its not perfect, but it beats the string of first round exits we had until 2009

clearly it depends on the state of the team.

if the team is playing well then it makes no difference if we are the 4th seed or the 8th seed.

isn't the point to win a championship anyway? so what does it matter what seed you are? (outside of home court obviously)

additionally what people often seem to forget is that being in the playoffs = more games + tv coverage = more $$ for the team. the kind of $$ that allowed the rockets to get chase budinger, who despite having a bad start to the season is currently outplaying several of the lotto picks from his year.

No difference if we're 4th or 8th seed??? It matters VERY much because even though we just beat the Lakers in an early December game, I rather not play them unless I have to. When was the last time a seed lower then 6 won the NBA title?

The money and exposure we'd get from playing in the playoffs would be nice but unless we are in it to win it then I'd rather have a chance at a John Wall, DRose or Blake Griffin then Chase Budinger.

In general, an 8th seed means there are just as many teams with a higher win pct% than with a lower win pct% than you in the conference.

It's not really a huge accomplishment.

I don't understand why so many people are so against tanking. Why accept mediocrity? Would you rather see your team be mediocre for 10 years straight than 1-3 years of being bad and 7-9 years of contending?

Unless Yao comes back 100% (which sadly is not looking likely at this point), we have a roster full of role players. We do have nice young talent but none of which showing superstar potential. And in this league, you can't consistently win unless you have a star (perhaps even multiple stars) capable of taking over during crucial moments of games to lead the team to victory. We have a bunch of role players and many big contracts (no cap) and not a very good shot at acquiring a star. This isn't fantasy basketball, nobody is going to trade us a superstar for Aaron Brooks+something.

Realistically, we could be stuck in mediocrity for many years to come with this roster. After all those years of Tracy McGrady, I am tired of seeing first round exits year after year after year. I would much rather see us have one horrible year then bounce back as a contending team (similar to how the Spurs got Duncan, how the Magic got Howard, how the Celtics got Jeff Green whom they were able to flip for Ray Allen and later acquire KG forming the big 3). Tanking may not be pretty but in terms of long-term strategy, it might make the most sense for this team (given how we are built full of outstanding complement players).

A top 3 pick is probably our only shot at acquiring a superstar. While it won't guarantee us a superstar, it is our ONLY SHOT at landing a superstar (given the way this roster is structured).

Think about how scary this roster would be with a legitimate 1st option, a great 2nd option in Kevin Martin and bigmen like Yao/Scola/Hill.

stop worrying about stars! our team doesn't need superstars...we have enough clusters of formidable talents to make up for that superstar. this is the way the team has been built.

    and it's FANNNNNNTASTIC!!!!

i'm worried about a star because, but for very few exceptions, the history of the NBA has been about stars winning rings. stars leading contenders.

Hoosiers was a great story, but this is the NBA.

8th seed in the West couple of years ago was not embarrassing, 8th seed in the West this year, maybe a little bit...

Or it means Yao's been traded and/or suffered a career-ending injury. We can hope, right?

Also, we might be bringing on the Spurs or Mavs as the #1 seed. We can take 'em!

That's a really dumb statement, lol. The title will go through LA no matter what. It doesn't matter what round you play them in.

You're neglecting the possibility that the Lakers don't make it to the WCF. They'll be heavy favorites to get there, but its not a given. You always want to avoid the back matchups as long as possible in the playoffs. Seeding does matter.
