Do you really think an 8th seed is embarrassing in the West? LOL.

As a Fan who would love to see their Rockets play in the playoffs, I would take 8th seed..........

As a Fan who is tired of seeing their team try to get a superstar through a trade or relying on a 1 foot man.......I rather see us Tank and get a high draft pick because I don't want to be mediocre, especially since Trades aren't happening.

Its so hard to be a fan.

If you think this team is going to tank, you're wrong.

The Houston management and coaching staff put together a group of players that play their tails off.

This team will never lie down. Houston is trying to develop a winning product. We, unlike Minnesota and the Clippers, never expect for a superstar to fall from the skies into our laps.

This is why Morey has done the research to draft hidden talents and turn them into desirable players. He stockpiles assets because he knows reality says that the only way a superstar is putting on a Houston jersey is through trade.

Let's take a look at the business aspect. Who wants to attend a game to watch a team "rebuild" and tank. If the team sucks, people at least wanna root for a competitive group of guys.

Say we make the playoffs... Our team isn't built to lose in 4 games. We're not one-dimensional like the Washington Wizards. When healthy, sometimes now, we can come at you multiple ways.

An 8th seed in the west is far from a lost cause. Nothing is impossible.

We're MORE one-dimensional than the Wizards. In fact, we could be the most one-dimensional team in the league(it's really a toss up between us, the Warriors, and the Knicks).

Working hard for that first round exit is counter-productive. Why put off the inevitable? We're gonna have to rebuild, and soon. Why not now?

IIRC an 8th seed has upset a #1 three times. Nuggets beating the Sonics in '94, Knicks beating the Heat in '99 and Warriors beating the Mavpricks in '07.

    8th seed, I don't know. 7th seed, yes.

We are 2.5 games behind the 8th team, which is not that hard to catch up.

We are 5.5 games behind the 7th team. To be able to make up that much ground, we'll have to play very well the rest of the way. That means we are gelling and are peaking at the right time. I like our chances then.

You know all those threads saying "have the rockets franchise accepted being mediocre"? Well striving for the 8th seed and only ONE 2nd round appearance in a long time...That is being a mediocre team, sorry. If you guys don't want a superstar then don't complain when this team does nothing significant for years.

Good post. If you can somehow get to the playoffs, you take your chances everytime. Tanking is for the weak minded.

    2010 LA Lakers - 1st seed
    2009 LA Lakers - 1st seed
    2008 LA Lakers - 1st seed
    2007 SA Spurs - 3rd seed
    2006 Dallas - 4th seed (2nd best record)
    2005 SA Spurs - 2nd seed
    2004 LA Lakers - 2nd seed
    2003 SA Spurs - 1st seed
    2002 LA Lakers - 3rd seed
    2001 LA Lakers - 2nd seed
    2000 LA Lakers - 1st seed
    1999 SA Spurs - 1st seed
    1998 Utah Jazz - 1st seed
    1997 Utah Jazz - 1st seed
    1996 Seattle - 1st seed
    1995 Houston - 6th seed
    1994 Houston - 2nd seed
    1993 Phoenix - 1st seed
    1992 Portland - 1st seed
    1991 LA Lakers - 3rd seed

Only 1 team in 20 years from the West has made the Finals without having homecourt in any round. Even of those 4 3rd/4th seeds, 2 had the 2nd best record in the league.

Everyone keeps talking about 8th seed and beating the Lakers or experience some excitement in the playoffs? Huh?

You play to win the games! You play to win a championship!

If you are not a contender, which the Rockets are not...

If you are not a young promising team that is overachieving, which the Rockets are not...

Then why should the Rockets make a big trade for second tier star, play veterans more minutes, and push themselves to the max to get fringe playoff spot that almost always is a stepping stone for another team's championship run?

No, you don't play to lose. No, you don't throw games. But you do start to rebuild and reload, but you need a centerpiece as a foundation. To get that the Rockets need luck (lottery or trade) and or assets other teams want. (Sidenote: They also need to know the CBA and rules by which they will have to use to build that team)

Our young players need playoff experience, even if only one round against the Lakers, to continue to grow and gain confidence.

if we tanked last year, we would've not been in this situation....

but anyway i appreciated the fight and enjoyed a lot of the surprise last year.
