LinkedIn is obviously specialized as a business network, so for me it's more akin to Monster than something like Facebook. I never really the touch the thing, and the only reason I would is if I was job-hunting, which I think it may be useful for.

You are absolutely right- many recruiters and companies are now using Linked-In to source and identify candidates. Linked-In is effective because you can put your career information on there even if you're not looking for a job, unlike a site like Monster where, if you post your resume and your boss finds it, you could be in trouble. I would recommend that anyone who has a resume copy-and-paste it into Linked-In (but first create a .txt version because it is better to copy-and-paste this than a Word document. You open up the Word document and go to File, Save As, then create a new name like Internet Resume, and scroll down to Plain Text (.txt).
