I really don't care if we make it or not......if we do, fine, if not, fine. We aren't winning it this year, so for me, I would rather have the higher pick in the draft. Anyway, let's just enjoy the rest of the season...and hope for a 20+ game winning streak. DD
I don't think it really matters if I care or not. I only care if the team plays with heart. If that's good enough to make the playoffs, then sure. We are missing Yao and we have a bunch of new players, so being realistic is what people need to do instead of freaking out on every game. stop trying to guess the ending and enjoy the story!
Be careful DD, we don't want people to think you want to tank.Just because you know what would really be good for the team long term.
This is a bit off topic, but I can't start a new thread yet... so here goes. First time post here: So the way I see it, here's what I'd hope the rest of the March schedule looks like for the Rockets: Wins: Sac, @ Min, @Det, @Was, NJ, @NY, @Chi, LAC, Was Losses: Den, Mem, Bos, @OKC, LAL We're chasing the Spurs for the 8th seed in the playoffs, so here's what I see the Spurs doing in March: Wins: @NOH, @Mem, NY, @Min, LAC, @Mia, GS, @NJ Losses: @Cle, @Orl, @Atl, @OKC, LAL, Cle, @Bos So that would put the Rockets (proj 39-34) one game back of the Spurs (proj 42-31) headed into the 3/31 game in San Antonio (which would also clinch the tiebreaker for the Rockets if they win it). So if the Rockets win in San Antonio on 3/31, they could very well be in the 8th seed headed into April. Isn't this exciting? So I'm thinking of going to the game in San Antonio on 3/31. Is anyone else thinking of going? If so, would you want to buy a block of tickets and sit together? I CAN'T STAND SAN ANTONIO in general, the Spurs specifically, and expecially their no-good, run down dump of an arena called the AT&T Center. In fact, I don't even like AT&T just because their name is on the place. So sitting with Red Nation would definitely brighten the trip up for me, win or loss. Thought? Interest? Discuss.
Making the playoffs this year is FOOLS GOLD PEOPLE.This is not last years team.We are weaker on defense. We would have to really overachieve just to make it.Our guys are already running on fumes and UNDER MANED!These guys are not robots.
And, because this thread is about whether making the playoffs is a big deal, here's my $.02: I think that making the playoffs is totally valuable, regardless of how unlikely a championship run is tome come of it. I don't who told me this, probably an old coach, but the games are played because either team can go out an win on any night. Remember, we took the Lakers to 7 game last year. The Warriors beat the mavs a few years ago to prove that making the 8th seed matters. Moreover, having a culture of winning means making the playoffs as an 8th seed should be the minimum. The floor. You can't say that you hope to see a championship in houston in the next few years and also say that making the playoffs isn't a big deal. Championships live in the postseason (obviously). You can't hunt deer from your bedroom (or most of us can't). Finally, the x-factor of a playoff experience isn't able to be tangibly measuresd. Rookies gain loads of experience, the team galvanizes, there are just so many things about the postseason that matter to a good basketball organization that I just don't see how anyone could write the playoffs off. Yes. I really care about the Rockets making the playoffs.
The playoffs are for the best 8 teams. If you have to overachieve just to make it.that means you are a pretender not a real contender.
Don't you think an 82 game season eliminates the possibility of a "pretender" sneaking into a competitive conference? If the Rockets make the 8th seed, then they ARE one of the 8 best teams in the West.
In general, a team wants to tank because there's no hope for them to make the playoffs. They have to think about the ranking of picks. I never saw a team to tank when they still have a good chance to make the playoffs. I think the rockets still have a good chance to make the playoffs.
I don't think 'overachieve' is a right word now. They did overachieve at the beginning of the season. But, now the rockets have Martin, Jeffries, ...
I think the chances are remote, and I'm not too bothered by that. If the Rockets make a push, and they are close to making it, I'll start to care more.
My point is it may be possible to "overachieve" for 10 games... or 20 games... but not 82. If you think the Rockets will have to "overachieve" to make the 8th seed, then your definition of 'overachieve' may be flawed. Your expectations of the team headed into this season may have been a little low too, I imagine.
