Derail? I thought we had run our course already. I've started playing only recently, though the game is pretty old now. Next time I'm on, I'll look for you. You'll probably be able to guess my handle.
ya should try out some Battlefield:Vietnam, the M60 is supergeeked in that game, gotta hurry and have fun with it before EA tones it down with the patch
I didn't vote, JV. I guess I'm being goofy about this for some reason, but you could probably raise the smaller percentage a little bit if I did. Family heirlooms, you know.
About a dozen rifles & shotguns, 4 or 5 get used at least once a year, 1 is to keep the King of England from shoving me around, and the rest are collectors I've inherited.
I'd be happy to steer you in the right direction. It all depends on you. Do you want reduced recoil? What calibur do you want? My recommendation is to go shooting with a friend who has a few different types of guns and make a decision on what you want. Then get it at a store or a show.
Yep,...research everything, and I hate to say this, but the more expensive is almost definitely the better...Bamaslammer exhibited two custom-made firearms that cost over a grand (and the wilson-combat .45, near 2 grand), but dollar for dollar it's a better value than a highly regarded Kimber because of the handcraftsmanship and unparalled attention to the highest detail...But with that said, make your first gun a good production model and take lots of things into account, ...such as the advantages/disadvantages with issues of barrel length, caliber, price, weight of the weapon, capacity, type of safety used on weapon as it compares to other similar types, etc. combined with the look that appeals to you and other intangibles (such as wanting a good 1911- type because of American history) Btw, if any one wants to shoot with me this Friday, meet me at carter's...I'll bring my Beretta CX4, and Kimber TLE/RL...
I would recommend several things. A. First, I agree with my compatriots, go shooting with a gun-owning friend. I've taken several non-gun owners shooting with me and I'll bring a good part of my collection to let them try everything. Strangely enough, all of them bought H & K USP's. B. Dry-fire every pistol at the store until you find one that feels right. Trust me, you'll know when this happens (or when you buy a .45 like my Wilson Arms, which is the finest pistol bar none/ cost no object). C. I would advise against 9 mm for a home defense weapon. It is not very powerful in terms of stopping power and I don't think you want to have to pump round after round into somebody invading your home before they drop. .40 cal to me splits the difference perfectly between the ease, lightness and lack of recoil of a 9mm and the hitting power of a .45 ACP round. 10mm isn't bad, but that ammunition is not as easy to find and since .40 cal is pretty popular, prices are quite competitive.
I have my Texas CHL & numerous guns. I enjoy guns of the old west and shoot them regularly. Nothing like single action colts, winchester repeating rifles and side by side double barrel shotguns.
Drapg: Why do you want a gun? Does the sport of shooting interest you? Or is it a security/protection thing?
For security and protecton. I'm not a hunting fan at all. I've only shot a gun once (at a gun range in Austin), and I didn't like it. But I've wanted one for security at home for the past few months. It's gonna sound crazy, but I've been having a lot of dreams where my house is getting broken into while I sleep and I'm getting shot. I've found, in the past, that many of my recurring dreams are somewhat prophetic and come true in some form. Sure, call me nuts. I'm used to it.
Davis .380, chrome with black grips... but i'm in the market for a nice tactical shotgun, a .45 or a 9mm. btw, I love CS and I usually play Iceworld.
rockHEAD, I highly recommend the custom 12 gauge from Wilson Combat (check out the website)...out of their 3 type offerings, the tactical shotgun is the best value...I'll highlight the points...: 1. They start out with a 12 gauge Remington police pump, then they take a sound reputable, and reliable weapon and make it even more reliable... 2. You have a surefire light attachment that is essential for night defense and proper identification... 3. The added "ghost-ring" sights are considered by many to be the best, and it has a glow-in-the-dark tritium dot at the front which also helps in shooting at low lights without the white light(good for 10 years)... 4. Added functional extras include a tac-star sidesaddle (mounts extra shells)...and a unique tactical sling (which allows you to hang the weapon in front of you, in case you need to reach a pistol on your person) 5. The finish...You can get OD green, urban grey or a black finish called "armor tuff", which helps the appearance last... As you can see, I am eager to get one...in OD green...btw Also shoot both the 9mm and .45...I know some people say a 9 won't stop well, but using good premium hollowpoints (such as federal) makes the 9 a fearsome round... Sure the .45 has more recoil, but it also has what I consider "slower" recoil, whereas a 9mm or .40 seem to "snap"...It's hard to explain, but pick a good, reputable pistol that fits your hand,...but try to "try" before you buy...Ideally, the pistol you purchase will ONLY be used for the fun of target shooting...remember that 9mm costs half, or nearly half of .40 or .45... Although I have a "famous" Beretta 92fs in 9mm, I wouldn't recommend it wholeheartedly as a self-defense pistol, because I have had 3 or 4 jams while shooting nearly 1000 rounds, and believe it or not, that is not good enough for me...I partialyy blame the "average" quality magazine...plus the 9mm is generally considered the least round recommended for self-defense...followup shots are quicker though... I have had zero malfunctions or jams, while shooting the Kimber .45 with about the same amount of rounds fired...More than anything a pistol that uses a highly regarded, and reputable magazine will be reliable to the utmost,...and if self-defense is a consideration, reliability is paramount... At least 2 magazines come to mind as lending itself to making the pistol reliable even further...the premium 1911 pistol magazines (wilson-combat #47D, Chip Mccormick)...and the Glock magazines... However Glock isn't the only make that provides a quality magazine in 9mm...H & K has a good one, as well as the Springfield Armory X-Duty...Sig Sauer has a great reputation, but close examination of their magazine suggests it to be average like the Beretta...Smith & Wesson is trying, but the make is not as refined as HK or Glock...
I love mine. Sucker is reliable, looks damn fiendish and is the most accurate and comfortable shotgun to shoot period and I've shot them all. I think I posted a pic of one similar to mine. As for that godawful expensive .45 I have by them, that pistol is the best you can buy. It is the Rolls-Royce of pistols and it was the starting point for the Marine Corps upgrade of the classic M1911A1. HK and Glock to me, along with Sig-Saurer, make the best pistols. All are super reliable, easy to fire and clean and don't jam. I think that hollowpoint 9mm rounds only give the stopping power of .45 or 40 cal ball ammo, so that's why I'd go with either of those calibers. I agree with you on the 92F Berettas, in the Corps, I had two jam on me on the firing range. After that, I started carrying an ancient M1911A1 instead of that dog.
