I do my own lawn. My dad who is in his 60's enjoys doing his lawn. My parents love yard work and they enjoy the time together. Mowing my front lawn only takes about 10 minutes. 15 for the back. it is the damn edging that take a while. That and blowing away all the debris. I figure if my father can mow his lawn so can his 27 year old. Besides I always tell myself the 25 bucks will buy me and my wife sandwiches, sodas and chips and queso at texadelphia. Why jip myself out of a meal? If I was a doctor or a high level executive who did not have the time to do my yard then I would pay someone. But right now, I have lots of time.
I don't mind cutting and maintaining my yard. It just looks like crap since we live in the area closest to the sun...better known as Austin.
I live in a condo with a patch of a backyard...Its too small for a mower, so I have to use a weed eater...Mine just crapped out on me and I hate to buy one before the fall, but I have no choice...Grass is kinda tall after the rain... Update: Ok, just got finished weed eating my patch of grass and yeah, I tried my POC one last time...I did finish, but barely as gas was leaking everywhere and I laid it to rest in the dumpster...I need to find one in a couple of weeks... btw, I hate doing this...I'd rather pay someone, but some guy wanted to charge $30 and I just laughed at him...
I live in an apartment so don't have to worry about one anymore. If the heat bothers you that much, just wait til twilight to knock it out. Much more comfortable.
Please, tell us how you REALLY feel... I'd probably enjoy cutting my lawn if I had a self propelled mower instead of a manual push mower.
I used to mow our lawn for money back in high school. But now you couldn't pay me enough to do it again. Mowing grass in the summer houston heat is just unbearable. Especially my house is on the corner, so it has a huge yard. Plus our dogs **** all over the yard, making it even more undesirable to do it. It will take me 3 to 4 hours to finish mowing and edging the lawn. Total pain in the ass.
Mow it myself man. And a Toro man, but I guess that is another thread. I don't mind it, and if the weather isn't too hot I might even enjoy it. I am a runner, so when it is hot it doesn't bother me too much but I mow early or late. It's good exercise (small yard) and the best way to keep track of what is going on on my vast estate . I check out what flowers are in bloom, find the new bird nests in the spring, and hopefully detect any problems before they get out of control (in theory anyway). Max, one of my favorite parenting memories (and videos) is of me mowing the yard, my yellow lab trailing faithfully behind me (looking for grasshoppers hopping away from the mower), and my small young son following step for step behind us pushing his own toy mower. Now he is 14 and mows from time to time, but as I said, I don't mind doing it.
I don't mind cutting the grass. Infact, I kinda miss doing that. I'm never at home, and when I am home, it's always dark out, and I am not doing it in the dark. We hire some guys to mow the front and back and edge the yard. I wouldn't mind mowing the yard if it wasn't so damn hot, and I had to bag the clippings. I prefer to bag the clippings instead of letting the grass sit on the lawn. I just think it looks better. I wish I had a bad ass lawn mower. My mower is about ten years old or something. I want a mower that mulches it so you don't have to bag it. I hate edging the yard. I have an old ass piece of **** electric edger. It's almost 15 or so years old. It vibrates and hurts my hand. so yeah, I hire somebody to mow my yard, I'd like to do it myself sometimes. I like putting weed and feed on my yard though.
WTF, f*ckers? No MEXICANS-WHO-MOW-MY-LAWN Jokes? Y'all are slacking off. jk. I am MEXICAN and I have [had] a WHITE GUY do my lawn and shrub bed. How is THAT for irony, b*tches?
Na, I pay a lawn service $24 to do it. When I was getting paid overtime, I made more money going to work than sweating my butt off in 100+ degree heat mowing a lawn.
The main reason I hate it so much is because when I was a kid I had to mow my parents' grass. The yard in front and back was huge. When I first started doing it around age 10 or 11, it literally took 2 and a half hours to do all of it with virtually none of it in the shade. To make matters worse, the entire back fence was covered by honeysuckle vines home to hundreds upon hundreds of bees. I was stung at least 3 or 4 times every summer while cutting the grass. In some ways, it was traumatic. I'd run as fast as I could and shove the lawnmower into the fence and run the opposite direction as the bees swarmed. Once they calmed down, I'd race in, grab the mower and do it again. It sucked big time. As soon as I was old enough to move out, I decided I had no interest in cutting grass. Of course, most of my yard is covered in native plants. Only my ditch and a small area around the edge of my house has any grass in it. Makes for a nice yard.
I mow my lawn and my mother in law's. I could never pay someone to mow the damn lawn, but then again, I pay someone to change the oil on my car, so I am being a bit of a man hypocrite.
I mow it even though I don't love doing it, and I put it off as much as possible. Like jeff, I don't mind yard work but just hate mowing. I couldn't see paying someone though. There is no way I could do that when my dad in his 60s still mows his own lawn when he could easily afford not to.
I am allergic to grass, wheat, rye and barley (gluten). So no beer, pizza, scotch or grass mowing. I have to drink Tequila - thank God for the Blue Agave plant; and wine! When I used to mow my lawn my eyes would swell shut and I would have two streams of snot flowing down my face like rivers. My allergist told me I was about 1 small step away from being a bubble boy around grass. And that I should pay a lawn man. My son has the same allergy and was severly traumatized that he was not allowed to mow the lawn as a teenager (not!) I love to garden and plant roses, and other plants & trees, just no grass in my future.
