I would say 22% of the time I enjoy watching him play when he is actually catching passes and spinning and nailing the yao hook. The rest of the time I can't stand it. He can't catch anything other than a perfect pass, he is probably the worst 7 foot + defender now named Dirk, he doesn't match our coach, and he doesn't get calls. I understand that most of these aren't really Yao's fault but never the less I think he is very overrated especially in our current system...

    don hate to hard

He's the only reason why I started enjoying NBA and to be a rockets fan for ever.

That is a great point, Yao gets screwed by the new defensive rules.

I like watching Yao play like I would like watching a son or daughter play. Yeah, he may not always be great and he can frustrate the hell out of me quite often, but he's our big guy in the middle, and he's a great person and competitor. I enjoy seeing him succeed.

I have a different point of view. Each NBA player is unique. Some jump high, exciting, but can't score. Some drive good, exciting, but too small, no rebound. Few can jump, score, drive, rebound, they are more fun to watch, but some times it is not good for the team chemistry.

A basketball team has five players. To me, a team play is fun to watch. I get excited when a good pass happens.

I enjoy watching Yao play when the the damn refs allow him to play. Yao can't even play mean since the refs will give him bs fouls when he plays aggresive.

Some people are old school and enjoy watching a back to the basket big man do his thing. That use to be the NBA. The big fella as the centerpiece. I for one enjoy seeing Yao fight in the paint to score. That's where real men go to work especially since the NBA allows so much contact in the paint without it being a foul.

Playstyle wise he's not the most exciting one to watch, however his natural charisma and dominance make up for this.

he has zero agility and lateral movement

he has zero natural charisma or dominance...he doesn't even average 10 rebounds per game

If he wasn't with the Rockets, probably not.
But I love watching all the Rocket players play.
I'd imagine if I saw someone play in the exact same style on another team, it'd be boring to me.

So your enjoyment of basketball is directly proportional to a player's agility and lateral movement? You still have posters of Mugsy Bogues on your wall, don't you?
He's actually very charismatic, as his teammates, the media, or even the people who watch his interviews would tell you. The dominance is day-to-day. He is dominant on some nights, scrub on others.

Being a huge Yao fan, I find this question amusing.

I love watching Yao play. If i wanna see dunks, crossovers, local playgrounds probably outdo nba. But no matter where I play, where I go; I can never get to see a guy as talented and as huge play the game so beautifully. Yao plays the game in NBA like no other. When he is in his zone no team can stop him. He is very humble and charming guy, whats not to like about it.

dikembe mutombo is the age of 55 can block more shots than yao...mutombo held it down during the 22 game streak last year btw

i dont care about the interviews...only interview i wanna see is the championship game winning interview

...so the championship interview is the only place where a player can be charismatic. Do you even know what your stance is?
