Yeah, look at where those teams are. I've got a sneaking suspicion here. Maybe it doesn't have that much to do with Vince Young and his 61.5 QB rating. Maybe it doesn't have that much to do with Reggie Bush and his putrid career 3.7 YPC. Maybe it has to do with the Titans' ground game. Maybe it has to do with their incredible defense. Maybe it has to do with the weak schedule (Oakland, Atlanta, Houston, New Orleans when they were bad). With the Saints... maybe it has to do with Drew Brees being one of the top five quarterbacks in the game for all of last season and for this season outside of September. Maybe it has to do with Marques Colston being one of the best rookie wideouts in the league in a long time. Maybe it has to do with the Saints actually having eight home games now, as opposed to zero the season before Bush. Maybe it has to do with Sean Payton. If either of those two players was in Houston, the Texans would be even worse (well, especially if it were Vince). Get a clue: teams win games. Not players.
Guess you'd prefer Trent Dilfer to Carson Palmer, then. I've got a sneaking suspicion that maybe it's not about this mythical "attitude." Considering they're NFL players and paid professionals, I'm guessing every team in the league has the desire to win. I think it has more to do with the defense being incredibly talented (especially the front seven)... a great ground attack... arguably the second-best coach in the league... those things seem to logically have a lot more correlation to winning than some "attitude."
They had all those things BEFORE Vince got there and sucked. Never underestimate the power of attitude and leadership. DD
Really? They had LenDale White before Vince? They had Chris Henry? And if you think Vince has any impact at all on a team's defense, I guess I'll stop now... there's no point in debating further. That would be... wow.
Just a question for the VY crowd. Is there anything he could do that you folks would consider a poor performance. If he threw say 9 interceptions 4 returned for touchdowns and was sacked 10 times....fumbled 6 snaps. Would you then say it was a bad performance. Cause honestly some weeks he is approaching that and the VY chowder and marching society is still singing his praises.
Cat, The Titans coaches talk about how his attitude has permeated the team, if you don't believe it fine, but anyone that has EVER played sports knows how one great player with the right attitude and leadership qualities can lift the whole team. I can only answer for me, but he has clearly stunk up the joint in some games, but he has a knack for getting it done at the right time, and that is more crucial than looking pretty with stats. DD
No, because that doesn't take into account the incredible willpower he has from the sidelines to lead the Titans' defense. Perhaps he should quit playing and become the greatest defensive coordinator in NFL history.
Part of their good defense is the ball control offense that Fisher uses to keep the Defense off the field you nitwit ! DD
I have, and I don't agree with that. Also, what are the coaches supposed to say? "No, he's not a leader, it makes no difference." When a reporter asks a question like that, how the hell can they NOT say that? It's common sense. However, what's also common sense is that the Titans' defense has a lot more to do with talent, individual coaching and schemes than it does from some magical willpower from the sidelines.
Yes, I have a response....uh what? Again, I like the Texans and Young, but all you Young haters are silly. The guy is a winner, everywhere he has been. You are all just jealous that he is not doing it for the Texans....and you should be. DD
Fisher gets my vote for coach of the year. I don't know how he has this team at 6-2 with the bad offseason they had as well as the bad QB play. He may be the most underrated coach in the league right now, which is probably just how he likes it.
DD's VY arguments are like his v-gina arguments...repetitive and weak VY will be a great QB but he isnt right now and no matter how much "it" he has he has NOTHING to do with the defense. its just ignorant to no call a spade a spade. Titans win because of defense
Yep, the defense controls the ball and the clock, and scores enough points to win. WTF ever. Vince is not a finished product, but his leadership is one of the BIGGEST reasons they are where they are... DD
I don't like VY because I went to Vanderbilt thus I am for Jay Cutler. Although I still live in Nashville, I kinda rooot against the Titans now, because of this VY/JC rivalry.
One of the biggest? I suppose after their defense, coach, O-line, running game, and special teams...then VY. Yes, he is in the top 6 reasons. I suppose VY just sitting on the sideline was enough to inspire the titans win over the texans, right? Oh wait...you live in Austin dont you? Nevermind. No sense in having a reasonable, and honest, discussion about VY. Silly me. He walks on water. he turns water to wine. He has healing power. he's the greatest ever no matter how crappy he plays. last 2 weeks? 152 total passing. no passing td, 2 ints, 1 rush td. HOF material right there. Wonder if its a coincidence that the titans best offensive game was against the texans, with kerry collins at the helm? It was also the first game where they actually passed for over 200 yards. Running the football, a great defense and a great coach...plus a good kicker, has led the titans to where they are at. Even in spite of subpar QB play. Does that mean VY isnt special? nope. He can and will be very good. But he isnt right now and he still makes more mistakes than good plays.
There you have it. Yet, you're labelled a "hater" when you frankly admit the kid is already special and can and will be very good. An honest assessment of VY's performance this year is that it's not so good. No one's saying he's not a leader, but ultimately, while leadership does wonders for clubhouse morale and can inspire folks to work a little harder during the week, it does *not* win games. And on the field VY is doing precious little to win games right now.
