Bonzi is not a championship type of player, he has too many deficiencies in his game, and this year has flat out struggled....especially as a jump shooter.....you know the kind of shots you get when Yao Ming is in the paint? Bonzi never quite fit....good trade. DD
Nice to see someone with some sanity posting. Guys, Bonzi was not going not re-sign here.. and we got rid of MJ's Mo-Taylor-like contract. If anyone got robbed in this deal, it was NO. People worry about depth behind TMac, but if we were going to be put in a position of having to rely on Bonzi to replace TMac for whatever reason, then it was all over anyway. At least now we don't have to worry about Rafer necessarily having to continue to play out of his mind. Where we really lacked depth was at PG behind Alston. Brooks is just not ready, and Luther will never be an NBA pg. And for those who are screaming 'BJ can't shoot!', has anyone watched Bonzi attempt an outside shot lately? The nice thing about this trade is that it in no way precludes us getting Miller from Memphis. Or signing Barry. Or heck, maybe Morey sees something in this Haluska kid that NO didn't..
His shot has been inconsistent at best and I've never seen someone miss so many point blank layups, but I still feel that at the end of the day(barring any additional trades or free agent signings) that the Rockets are a worse team today than they were yesterday. And to add insult to injury, we just made the Hornets, a division rival and one of 6 teams we're chasing, better.
I'm very ticked off about this trade. We lost a potential spur killer in bonzi, he is also one of our best slashers and one of the best on the team to get to the FT line. Plus, because Bonzi is gone, Luis Scola's game might drop now, because these 2 guys were always feeding off eachother. The only bright side to this trade is that we got Mike James off our backs, and hopefully Bobby Jackson is just a needed trade to set some other trade up. I really hope so. Because letting go of Bonzi for Jackson, IMO wasn't the best idea. Statistical breakdown: -Bonzi scored 9.2 PPG, 2.1 better than Bobby -He also grabbed 5.1 RPG almost 3 more than Jackson(2.4). Not to forget, Bonzi was one of our best offensive rebounders. -Jackson only gives us 1.7 APG compared to Bonzi's 1.6 -Bonzi stole the ball atleast once a game, Jackson's at 0.7 -Well's probably blocked more than Jackson at 0.5 vs 0.1 -Bonzi shot a much better percentage, nearly at 43%, while Jackson hasn't passed the 40% mark. -The only major advantage Jackson has is the FT%, he leads Bonzi with 82% shooting, compared to 64% for Wells. Let's not forget, Jackson doesn't get to the line as often as Wells. -Bobby also shoots a better 3pt%, 37% vs 21%. We already have some shooters on this team anyway. -Bobby plays 3 min. less than Bonzi. If that remains, that means we will get to see more Tmac/Battier. OR Jackson just might get more min. Results: I, from top to bottom, like Bonzi MUCH more than Jackson. And a little extra credit to Bonzi, he has a nice pair of dunks each game, and nearly one sweet facial per game aswell. I'm just hoping Jackson was a peice we needed for another trade.
Bobby Jackson=Mike James, and the Rockets threw in Bonzi Wells for free. That's what the trade looks like to me. The trade will only make any sense if the Rockets uses the now available salary cap to get another player of Bonzi caliber. TODAY!
Why is everyone spazzin out so much? Bonzi has been good...at times. James...man, I really wanted him to do well. I like what Bonzi brings, but at the same time it's not like we are losing the world. Personally, I would have just not done any deal whatsoever, but Bobby Jackson brings some things with him too. Let's just see how it plays out. Bonzi wasn't THAT much of a impact player for us. Scola, Landry, Yao, and Battier can get our offensive rebounds for us still.
I can believe that Malick Badiane is part of the deal!!!! We should start an offical Malick Badiane appreciation thread.
Actually, as someone pointed out in the other thread, the truth is -- Carl Landry already gives us pretty much everything we get from Bonzi right now, and this only opens the door for him to get more minutes. He's more explosive, has a better jump shot and is a better rebounder. And this solves the problem of point guard depth. I had been quietly worried over the past few weeks about Aaron Brooks hitting that rookie wall hard and struggling to run the offense...not a good omen for a playoff push.
The Lakers, Suns, Mavs and Spurs are all in panic mode to trying to figure out how to contend with our slew of undersized, shoot first (and miss) aging guards. Horrible trade.
I am all for the trade. Sure, I will miss Bonzi but he definitely was lacking in the defensive end. Do we have a replacement for him offensively? Probably not... But lets not forget that he wasn't very consistent. The question is...Who will benefit from Bonzi's 22 minutes per game? -Luther head probably. All I hope for is that Luther doesn't disappear again in the playoffs With our current roster...Tracy will have to play some minutes at Small Forward unless Kirk Snyder comes into the rotation but that would mean that Chuck or Mutombo will be inactive. I wonder what will happen. Hopefully, we can dump Haluska and sign Harris. Starters: Ming Yao Luis Scola Shane Battier Tracy McGrady Rafer Alston Backups: Bobby Jackson Luther Head Carl Landry Steve Novak Aaron Brooks Defensive Contributions when needed: Dikembe Mutombo Chuck Hayes Inactive List: Kirk Snyder Adam Haluska Steve Francis
This is a decent trade, not a great steal or is it as bad as most people think. When you build a team that already has 2 stars, you find the pieces that mesh with them the best. In this regard, Bobby is a better fit than Bonzi. Bonzi's strength is his post game. If Yao is on, there is no need for Bonzi. Worse, he can not exploit the open looks created by Yao nor Tmac for that matter. Bonzi has been taken minutes from Battier, Scola, Landry, Hayes also. We don't really need that. Bobby is not a replacement for Bonzi so don't compare the 2, he is a replacement for Head. Bobby will backup SG or PG. We had wanted to use Head in this role but he sucks on the defensive end. Bobby is small but he is as tough as nail. He won't be abused by opposing PG. Bobby can play SG with TMac switches to SF or he can take a few minutes as PG. If we can tolerate Head, we will love Bobby.
No unless we plan on moving Bobby for Mike Miller. This makes no sense, Bonzi is younger and can give us something in the playoffs. I don't trust rookies in the playoffs. Especially if we're relying on Landry.

Also, what is the deal with loading up on small guards. Bobby is freakin 35 years old. Give me a break.
