the question is about the direction of the team not the current team itself

The one other thing I want to point out is this is Daryl Morey we're talking about. Nobody in the league is better at surprising everyone by finding a quality rotation player where others thought there was trash, and a starter where others thought there was a bench player. This guy assembles .500 teams in his sleep. He thinks the Rockets will "surprise" with how many games they'll win this season. Does that really fill you guys with confidence that we're tanking?

seriously...noone makes a big deal out of all the starting 5 black players around the league....how is that not discriminatory? I remember when the Astros went to the World Series in 2005 and Joe Morgan was calling the Astros essentially a rascist team because it had "no black players" on it and said stuff like "you can't win in the league without black players." Pretty rascist stuff but it never works the other way around...

I think teams just field the best players possible...what an amazing concept! That's how it should be in life..no quotas, no preferences, no discrimination.

I worry more that they will budge and trade all our future picks and all of our current rookies for howard and bad contracts (which will give away all our salary cap flexibility) Reason being howard along with couple of retreads from the magic along with what will be left of a gutted team is not going to be enough for howard to stay in houston then we will have no cap room, bad contracts and no picks.

Dont get me wrong , I would love howard in houston and i am willing to roll the dice on him staying but only at the right price. I do not want this to be a randy johnson situation, ive said it once and ill say it again... the astros team in 2004-2005 season with freddy garcia and guillen would have won atleast one world series .. but we morgaged the future and didnt even get short term benefits (first round exit)

If we surprise this season is it a bad thing? It means the young players are performing beyond expectations. Ever seen the film Moneyball? The GM trades the coaches favorite players right out from under him. Morey is not above that behavior. If we get Howard Morey loads up the roster. Josh Smith? If we don't Morey will dictate we tank. I can hope can't I? Is optimism a horrible thing?

False. Lin is not "white." That is a term reserved for Caucasians. Lin is "asian" (oversimplified generality) or "yellow" (which is technically correct, used, but sometimes offensive). How about just Asian. eh

    this whole discussion is asinine.

It doesn't matter what race the players are, only if they can play.

I truly believe Morey will walk before he pays more than 50% (???) of Howard's value. If he was willing to offer the farm the deal would have been done already. Which indicates to me that Morey is out there with an offer just an iota better than the next best offer (Bynum? - probably not Bynum's value now that I think about it). Morey is paid to be hard and cruel when in the driver's seat. I personally think he would do the job for free.

Absolutely true dude. I cannot believe people are even considering race. I personally function only in black or white. A net positive or a detriment? That is the only thing that matters. I personally would take an alien on the roster if he was 7'2", coordinated and had range and a back to the basket game. Mars? Mars? Where are you. LOL at myself.

Is that some kind of compliment? That's like saying I pick up girls that are a 5 on a scale of 1-10 all the time without trying. Not really something to brag about. Perhaps if he woke up he could assemble a winning team.

Kidding aside, I don't think we're going to tank on purpose but the lack of experience and untapped potential/talent is too much to overcome a losing season. I'm expecting to win 25-30 games. If we win over 30 I will be "surprised".

I agree..but the point the former poster was making was on race....I don't think it matters either--ability is all that matters--but we live in a seemingly overcharged racially sensitive era.

Depends on how we surprise... I guess if we wind up playing three rookies starter minutes and we surprise then that bodes very well. If our team revolves around Lin/Martin/Patterson/Asik and we surprise then it's just more mediocrity (except if you buy into Lin having superstar upside like some people, I guess...)

Exactly guy! If we win more than 25 the rookies and freshmen are performing beyond expectations. If we win 35 (with the expected trade of Martin) 2 or more of the rookies are showing all star potential. But hopefully we cement a trade for Howard at a bargain basement price.

Yup. You are exactly right. But I believe Martin is trade deadline fodder (Morey maximizing value). I have watched a dozen of last years Prokom games, and I would be very surprised in D-Mo was not the starter come December. He honestly has everything you could ever want in a modern PF. Three point range, a great back to the basket game and everything in between. A good rebounder and excellent passer. Lamb, to me, looks a lot like Martin on offense, only smoother, but with the potential to be a defensive stopper. Jones and White are probably serviceable rotation players. With some upside.

So there are 2 rookies for you. D-Mo and Lamb. However I do not see where a third breaks into the rotation, besides minimal minutes for Jones and White as back up 3's.

I think Morey flipped the roster in a positive manner. I think a lot of us liked the team that was put on the court last season. There was optimism that the team could gel and get into the 2nd round of the playoffs.

    Lowry / Dragic / Flynn
Martin / Lee / Terrance Williams
Budinger / Parson / Marcus Morris
    Scola / Patterson
    Dalembert / Hill / Thabeet

and now Only Martin, Parson, and Patterson are left!!!

    Lin / Duglas
    Martin / Lamb
    Parson / White
    Patterson / Jones
    Asik / Motiejunas

It is a talented albeit a super inexperienced club.

But right now Playoffs isn't even an after thought for a knowledgeable fan... But I'll still be following.

    This Thread is no fair

The 2012 pics will be here anywhere, and probably Asik too.

    So we let go

    Scola
    Lee
    Dragic
    Lowry
    Camby

    for

    Lin
    jjj
    Douglas
    Toronto 1st
    Charlotte 2nd
    NY 2nd x2
    cap space

If we can land Howard the direction will look much better.
Going down is the easy part.
I want to see the going up part to be happy
