bigtexxx: Email me if you're interested. I don't mind sharing it with you and if I do you'll understand why I'm not posting it to the board. You can always decide after reading it that I'm lying or the source is just wrong. It's a pretty good source though.
Batman Jones, can you please tell us why McCain was travelling with Bush today? Can you tell us why he criticized Kerry for his Mary Cheney remark? Your credibility is on the line here. DEFEND YOURSELF
I'm don't particularly like or dislike Kerry personally and for me that's not much of an issue. I don't figure I will ever know Kerry socially so I'm not really concerned if I will get along with him or not. OTOH most people who I know and like socially I would never consider voting for.
I have a man-crush on Kerry. I'm not going to do anything about it, he'd just break my heart too. That's one hell of a scarf.
No surprise there, Jorge. I'd be interested to know why though. Do you think I'm lying? Do you think the person I spoke with was lying? Can you honestly say any of it defies logic? Consider these factors: - Kerry and McCain are close friends who respect each other very much. They've both said so many times. - McCain and Bush had a very rough, very personal primary battle. - McCain was publically bitter about the way Bush ran his campaign in that primary. - McCain is known to hold a grudge. - McCain is known to have aspirations to the presidency. - If he runs for president, he will run as a Republican. - No one who has broken party ranks to endorse a Democrat will have a shot at the GOP nomination. No one I've sent that email to was surprised by the conversation I had, because it's not surprising. It makes perfect sense to anyone who's aware of the above, indisputable facts. Add in the fact that the person I talked to was as close as you can get without talking to the man himself, that that person had no reason to lie and that I don't either, and I'd love to know why my email was "weak" and why you're "unconvinced."
Actually, and oddly, I'd probably vote for gore over both the ass clowns we have now. He just seems more moderate than kerry and I'm not happy with the job Bush has done. sadly, he is likely to get my vote, unless i go libertarian.
Bats -- I don't think you are lying, I just think your source is full of thought-clouding emotion. You've also got the friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend phenomenon going where information typically gets distorted. If you expect a big shocking "McCain is voting for Kerry" headline, then you are off. Way off, friend.
Jorge: It's not friend of a friend and the dozen or so people who asked for the story and got it know that. You know that, too, and you're trying to dodge the meat of it by insinuating differently. Most of the people reading this thread have now heard the story and they know it was a direct conversation between me and one of the one or two people closest to McCain. I don't know what the emotional clouding is you're talking about. That makes no sense at all to me. Of course I'm not expecting a headline. If I was interested in one, I'd share the conversation with someone outside of this board and have someone from the media try to interview the person I spoke with. I haven't done that. I haven't even posted the story to this board, even though it's a members only board. I explained to you why I haven't done that and I'm sure you understand, so it's a little silly to insinuate I'm expecting a headline. All I was doing was sharing a very interesting conversation with the people I enjoy discussing politics with. If you want to dismiss it, that's fine. But none of the reasons you've posted for dismissing it makes any sense. Nothing you've said is an answer to the various, understandable reasons I cited that McCain could be for Kerry yet feel compelled to publically support Bush. And none of it explains your take that the story was "weak." I really don't understand how I could be "way off" by sharing, sans editorial, a verbatim conversation with an indisputably credible source.
Bats, your third-hand friend of a friend emotional source notwithstanding, how do you reconcile the fact that McCain is a REPUBLICAN who shares the vast majority of Bush's beliefs? How do you reconcile the fact that McCain is campaigning for Bush. Is McCain a hypocrite or a two-face? This is the case under your flawed scenario. It makes no difference if McCain is a friend of Kerry or if he has political aspirations in 2008 -- McCain is a conservative who has a history of voting for conservatives. It's that simple, friend. No amount of rumor or third-party insinuations from peripheral characters changes that.
Okay, Jorge. Sorry I bothered to try and have a conversation with you. Useless as always. Everybody here knows it wasn't a third hand thing. And everybody here knows you're making that up. The funny thing is, this isn't even a debate. It's not debatable and I'm not trying to win an argument. I shared a conversation I had, you said my credibility was on the line (LOL) and, as usual, you only damaged your own. Bye, luv.
McCain is just setting himself up to be the front-runner for the Repubs in 2008. After Kerry wins on Nov. 2nd, it will be a battle of the Vietnam Vets in 2008.
haven't seen batman's email, but, assuming it's true, its impact is virtually nil. a) Arizona will go republican, and b) Maccain is actively, enthusiastically campaigning for Bush. unless maccain goes public with this, there's no impact whatsoever. interesting tidbit tho, and might explain kerry's man-crush on mccain.
