yeh, i don't see it as an immoral or un-Christian thing to do either, but my mom repeatedly states "the body is the temple of God" and so on - she uses this on everything to do with tattoos, any alcohol consumption whatsoever, and other things that might have to do with the body. however, she herself is overweight, so i don't quite see how she can argue with me on how i'm taking care of my body...but she seems to put up quite a fight nonetheless. she'd probably kick me out of the house if she knew i had a tattoo or drank alcohol (which i don't do while living in her house, because i want to try and keep the peace).
I remember that well and that was the first thing I thought about when I read that thread, well that and the song by The Who called "Tattoo". 3814, You are an adult - do what you want to do. Personally, I would never get a tattoo. But different strokes for different folks - if you feel this is something you need done, then do it. And you shouldn't worry (obviously) what some people on an Internet message board think; however, your mother might be a little different, if you know what I mean! If she is that against it and you decide to get one anyway, you have to prepare yourself to fight a battle with her over why you got it if you see what I am saying here.
I've never considered a tattoo until reading this thread. Now, I have to say I think: is worthy of consideration.
I got one when I was 18 (8 years ago). It's just a red sun with a black center above my right ankle. Yeah, I know tattoos in the ankle area are "gay". I also had my bellybutton pierced at around the same time, so go figure. Personally I don't regret getting it, I normally forget it is even there. My mom acted upset when she first saw it but she got over it real quick. If it's something you want to do, then do it. As long as it's in an area thats easy to cover up then I don't think it is much to drive yourself crazy over. Jeff - What are you thinking about getting? I was very close with my grandfather so I've always thought about getting another one and somehow incorporating his initials. Just don't do the tribal arm band.
If I think of getting a tattoo (not in a near future) I'll get a little basketball ball or maybe the rockets logo, in the bicep or in my ankle.
Get a giant tattoo on your back in gothic lettering that says "Now Entering the Temple of God" with an arrow pointing to your buttcrack.
While your mom might raise a stink its your body. Still to argue your mom's POV before you get one really think carefully about how it will look when you're 50. As for me I've got a bunch of scars so the last thing I need is to be marking up my body.
Something Asian - either a character or a Yin/Yang sign. I have this idea of trying to incorporate a bass clef into a yin yang symbol. It has similar flow, but it would have to be the right design. I really like the look of straight black Asian characters. I already know where I'm getting it done and who will do it, so we'll see.
bass nerd! I used to refuse to play Fender P-Basses because the headstock looked too much like a treble clef.
I've got more than 4 and less than 6. I even have But I had it done back in 1995, so I was a total badass before anyone else. I was biker bad as in "Don't Tread on Me" bad. Awesomely bad.
When I was a kid, I once was in a convenience store, and saw some biker magazine on the stand with other magazines. On the cover was some older biker lady who had had piercings and tattoos. They weren't excessive, but this woman was really old and the tattoos and piercings made her look even nastier than she already was. Ever since I saw that, tattoos to me just look really skanky.
I've got one on my upper back...don't regret it at all. I can't really say its 'meaningful' but I could care less. If I don't want anybody to see it, they don't. Whatever you do don't go tiny. It looks dumb and very puss like. If you going to get a tatoo go all out and get something with some girth. And no matter what anybody tells you..IT HURTS. At no point do you not realize that someone is sticking a needle in you. I would go with 'Ride Ride' in old english across the shoulders
I just got this via email, in one of those that may, or may not be true series of (in this case) Doctor's Experiences:
