I live in the LA area, and would have to say that the Lakers fans are very knowledgable about and unbiased towards any other team in the NBA. So the Lakers fans are far from clueless. The Lakers are only getting so much fanfare as well as hatred this season because they're currently #1 in the west.
I understand this may be considered a "low blow" to some on here, and I understand how someone might find it too edgy to agree with, but I definitely believe it to be true. I don't see a logical reason on why Derek Fisher couldn't get proper medical care for his daughter (who I do feel bad for) in the state of Utah. And to boot, I still believe even if he stayed in Utah, he would still be able to bring his daughter to California anytime she needed to, if he truly believed that only the state of California could bring her the best medical care. As well, with all the hatred I have for the Utah Jazz, I still applaud them for booing Fisher when the Lakers went to Utah this season. *Excepts to get lambasted if anyone reads this rookie's post* Also, #3 is something I've thought about every single time I've seen a Lakers game on TV. Their dimmed lights on the audience has to be the worst arena effect I've ever had the displeasure of viewing.
I live in Los Angeles and live with Laker fans and I have to say its a 60-40 or 50-50 in terms of the fans being clueless. The only reason I would 50 or 60 percent of the fans are clueless is because a handful of the fans are just bandwagon jumpers to attach to the team once they start winning. The don't know much about the NBA, basketball, or other teams, but the Lakers are a hot ticket and when everyone is talking about them, people start to watch. But that could be said about other cities with multiple sports and teams. Secondly, the stereotype that the Laker-fans are spoiled because of all the winning is somewhat true. As a result, once a Laker team is built that can compete for a title, many of the fans and sports radio began to proclaim that the Championship Parade is going to be in June! I don't hate the Lakers, but I am a Rockets fan so I don't cheer for them because they are in the same conference. I hate the Jazz and Mavs way more than the Lakers tough!
1. I can understand if you hate Kobe's personality, but you can't hate on the man's game. Just watch and appreciate the talent and desire that he has and this is the cause of all his accomplishments and downfalls (ie ballhogging against the Kings). 5. Los Angeles is the greatest city on the planet. It is only April and I am already hitting the swimming pool. I love that weather! But I hate that ****ing traffic! 6. Come on! We give you all the movies, the big boobed girls, we are the capital of the p*rn industry, we gave you the Bloods, the Crips, the Eses, and gangsta rap! 9. I agree with this statement because Bynum needs to put up numbers for at least a year before he can be dubbed the next Shaq or the best center in the league. Eve Erick Dampier can put up numbers for a month or so! 15. LOL!!!! HAAHAHAHAHA!!! 16. So true. Damn Memphis! 17. As the other guy put it, he is a "vagina" that runs to the corner and hides at the first hint of contact. 22. Can't discredit Horry! He has done it multiple times in the playoffs! You should really come out to Los Angeles if you have never been here before. Great city with great weather, great places to dine and visit, horrible traffic, and gang bangers!
you were only supposed to leap forward a hour on sunday not an entire month its really depends most laker fans i find are pretty decent in other teams but tend to really homer it up on their own team, most fans are like that though. but bandwagoners are really rampant around here and they dont know crap and only think that the lakers are the only team in the world.
I don't see how anyone can hate the Lakers, as a team. Unless you're a big Kobe hater of course However, hating their fans is perfectly normal
You can only hate once you have loved. that being said, I really dislike the Lakers but I've lost my intense dislike of Kobe Bryant. The guy just pulls through everything and he's a damned good player. Can't hate. I don't think he deserves MVP quite yet, but even without a free Gasol they were playing well, so he probably does... I am not going to drink the Hatorade on this one. I don't like a lot of things about the Lakers but when I step back, a lot of them are materialistic and meaningless. I just have a passionate disliking for Vujacic. and Farmar may have humbled up in the NBA but that doesn't change the fact that he was the biggest ass at UCLA. He seems pretty cool in the NBA though. Oh and I don't know if this has anything to do with Bynum but I hate the media love he gets. He's good but he's not Yao Ming to the Rockets... The Lakers are good. Kobe Bryant is good. Phil Jackson is a complete asswipe but he's a great coach. I just hope we give them a sound shillackin' and take first place from them!
I think the Rockets can beat the Lakers, but Deke will have to have a great game and log a good many minutes. I think the combo of Hayes, Scola, and Landry can deal with their front line. Now when Bynum comes back, it is going to be really tough.
As a Houstonian and lifelong Rockets fan, I moved to LA a couple years ago and would have to say 80% of the fans here are bandwagoning idiots. The announcers on TV are absolutely terrible and I cannot stand watching any of the games that are broadcast because the homerism is too ridiculous. I'm shocked that OrangeCounty thinks the fans here are knowledgeable and unbiased. Also, I'm glad somebody finally brought up Sasha Vujacic - that guy is such an ass and I hate him. Actually I hate almost all the Lakers, and living out here makes it exponentially worse. I admit Kobe is a great player, but that's as far as I'll go.
what's wrong with sasha? he works hard to turn himself from a ultrascrub into a decent bench player, should be appreciated. and tv announcers are just awesome, i love stu lance and the other guy(whatever his name is, i forgot), yeah, they have some homerism, but so do every other local announcer for every other team. I find their analysis of the game at least interesting, fun to listen to, and flows well with the game.(if u want horrible announcers, try the clippers, absolutely pain in the ass). I think fans here are knowledgeable, but hey, bias can not be prevented, just like how houston guys love to hate on dallas and jazz, obviously lot laker fans would have hated team too.
Farmar is a cool cat, but he tends to be an a-hole on the court when he is considered the best player. I had classes with him and balled with him before when he was in my high school and he was a real down to earth dude. But I also remember him budding heads with the coach because the coach wanted him to give a little more during practice (he thought he didn't need practice since he was a freshman on varsity and was destined for the NBA). I also remember when he left for a rival high school (Taft), their was another young "stud" player a year younger than Jordan and he use to yell at him on the court. That rubbed me the wrong way. You shouldn't be yelling at your teammate in the middle of a freaking high school basketball game! But I agree, the NBA seems to have humbled him somewhat!
I've got friends in Irvine, Newport Beeyatch, Palos Verdes, Santa Monica, Diamond Bar, Trabuco Canyon, Sherman Oaks, Thousand Oaks, Beverly Hills, Hancock Park, Van Nuys, North Hollywood, Bel-Air, Downtown LA, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Manhattan Beeyatch, Laguna Niguel, Marina Del Rey, Upland, Belmont Shores, Topanga Canyon, and probably more places I'm forgetting.......and about 90% of them are devoted fakers fans and of these, 98% are sadly enough also frickin clueless about the rest of the NBA. Selected Quotes: 2002 - "Peja might score a lot of points but Rick Fox is like 20 times better looking so that matchup's a wash" 2003 - "Devean George will easily be a 4-5 time all-star by the time he retires" 2004 - "Hey I heard Yao is for sure gonna leave and sign with LA after a couple years. You guys just got him on rent right now till Stern gets him out here....forget about it" 2005 - "Seriously, Brian Cook is probably the best shooting big man in the game right now" 2006 - "The difference is that Kobe gets you points AND assists plus he can shoot 3's. And Jordan didn't have nearly the offensive arsenal that Kobe has that's why he could never score 81" 2007 - "Bynum is taller and more skilled than Dwight Howard though; he actually reminds me of a slightly shorter Kareem" 2008 - "Kobe will probably get 4 more rings now that he's got Gasol and Bynum inside; you know he's gotta get at least one more than MJ did, haha"
