Sorry, tinman. Maybe you need some oil? Nobody will ever deny the fact that you need a great team to win a championship. I haven't and neither has anyone else in this thread. But, you missed the point. The point wasn't to argue over whether Hakeem had adequate teammates or not. The point was to compare the teammates Hakeem had in 94 versus the rest of the top 10 all time NBA players who won championships. It's kinda funny that you haven't grasped this yet.
I'm not a part of that debate. I'm agreeing with chefs point that some people claim oon this board claim legendary fan status because they joined this board 1999. Some of those same people then go on to harass and disrespect new joiners. No I didn't see those championship seasons because I was 2 and 3 years old.
You know that Robert Horry played with Shaq, kobe, and Tim Duncan too right? was he not a key member of their championships? You are trying to say Dream was underrated by saying that he played with a weaker team. why? was MJ's first 3 championships stacked? why can't you say the Dream was awesome and he had awesome teammates? I can. And Maxwell was badass that year. You do remember that CLUTCH CITY game right?? I don't care if Max had a couple bad games in the regular season. Did we not get one of the best records in the league?
DD is a legendary fan, you have to earn that. you cant just join and expect people to think you are a legend. The people who joined in 99 are my brothers, I like to give them props. the 'new' users who don't care about the Rockets and think that Jeremy Lin > everybody in the world need to shut up.
how is this dude giving me crap for calling DD a legend? it's a like a no name rapper getting mad that Snoop Dogg is giving Dr Dre props.
Why are you still back peddling? Just show the proof and we can move on. If MJ's teammates were worse than Hakeem's were then you need to make a case as to why, presented with empirical evidence. But, I can tell you with a straight face right now, you will be embarrassed for trying to make such comparison. I will give you all the time you need to research this topic. Merry Chistmas.
My point is that I don't care. I don't expect other people to think I'm a "legend". This board is cool but its just a site to talk about the rockets. Fans don't win or lose, players do. There's no such thing as a legendary fan. The whole status clique is immature (which is why I liken it to a middle school girl clique). I didn't know joining an online forum the same year as someone constituted a brotherhood. The majority of us grew up in houston and have been rockets fans our whole lives. We're not really all that different when it comes to "fandom". The only reward that committed fans. Get is the psychological satisfaction that comes from witnessing their team win. Its not like you get a trophy for being a bigger fan than someone.
Lol not at all. That's a horribly broken analogy. Snoop dogg and dr dre are successful people that made their names on talent and hard work. Online posters just type sports talk on their keyboard. Get off the high horse man. Who are you gonna compare yourself and your clutchfans posting ability to next? Beethoven? Hendrix? Einstein? Isaac newton? Lol
Join date means everything around here. It doesn't matter that someone like me was born in Houston in 1979 and lived here their whole lives, only supporting the local teams. That doesn't mean ****. It's only when you join this forum that means anything.
Well if you ingratiate yourself with the other 'established' posters by brown nosing or follow along with whatever the latest sheep mentality is (like whining about LOFs) you can 'earn' plenty of reps and feel validated as a human being. People always look for ways to think they are better than others. This 'I'm a true fan' is just the latest variation (and it's not all that new). I find it a bit strange. I'm a sports fan and I enjoy sport for the sport, not so that I can claim some kind of personal glory through my fandom. Which is also ironic since supposedly that's what a lot of Lin fans are obsessed with. People are the same everywhere, man. And we are all people.
This forum is all about the "fans" though. So, it stands to reason that the true fans should be able to speak without penalty. Right now, this forum penalizes folks based on trivial things such as join date and popularity. Case and point, I have earned more reputation points on this forum for saying stupid **** than I have for actually discussing Rockets basketball on an intellectual level. So, do the forum gods want to continue to promote an atmosphere where users are inclined to say stupid **** to earn points, or do they really want to promote intellectual conversation?
Wow! A nice little thread about hating the Mavs devolves into a Rockets "old fan vs. new fan" catfight. What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on around here?
Good point. This should be a topic to unite not divide. Is it possible to hate the Mavs and like Dirk? Cuz he just kicks ass. I really hate the Jazz though.
Very intelligent and insightful post. Refreshing to see. Put into words everything that I was trying to communicate about the weirdness of super fandom.
F the damn mavs we always beat them in every category and pound them in the paint and on the boards and always still lose everytime we play them late in the 4th the run a high pick and roll at the top of the key and we always switch leaving our pg on dirk it never fails F dirk too dude is just a glorified jump shooter no post game what so ever he is the meaning of soft I don't care if they got lucky lebron and the heat weren't ready to win it all that year he don't defend or rebound damn I hate the mavs when we will star doubling dirk and make somebody else beat us sorry for the long post and bad punctuation lol
The Mavs management are what I wish the Rockets could have. They got a veteran coach instead of a low basketball IQ ex-player. Instead of using some pseudo science Morey Ball philosophy, they stick to solid, proven basketball fundamentals. Instead of flipping players like cards, they develop talent into good role players. Instead of chasing big name stars and overpaying, they find veterans like Monta Ellis, Calderon, Shawn Marion, Dalembert, etc ... that FIT into their system. Morey should study that instead of preaching his flawed system that real coaches around the league laugh at.
the mavs wish to be like the rockets...they failed in getting dwight be patient with this team we have a long ways to go.
Agreed. I really hate the damn mavs and their players. I don't know how they won against us many times. I tried to pray a lot but it still didn't work. It's okay, I trust in Morey and I believe he is going to do something that can help beat mavs long-term.
Backpedaling ? Let's go player by player. BJ Armstrong . Is he better than Kenny smith or Sam cassell ? No. Absolutely no. Don't worry buddy. Bulls vs rockets thread will rise and you'll find it soon
