Phil Jackson merely said what any sane person was thinking. "How the hell am I supposed to take you seriously?" It's like having a deep question asked you by Ronald McDonald. "Well, Liberace, we need to get out on the break more and start making some perimeter shots..."
Weird, I always liked him and thought he was pretty spot on about the Rockets when most analysts seem to just regurgitate what is said on Sportscenter.
atl4ast he's not mark jackson. gawd that guy is dumber than a headless chicken on crack pipe. collins , reggie, and van gundy are the one who tell it like it is.
I just don't get where this crap is coming from. For one thing, he's always been very positive on Yao IMHO. The other is that he calls it fairly so of course he's going to explain where the Rockets and the other team are weak or screwing up during the course of the game. You have to be a huge homer to take that as some kind of purposeful insult and not just good analyzing of the game and the teams. I know Clutch was annoyed by the constant talk about the 4th quarter run, but it was true and lots of people on our side talked about it before the game as well because it did happen in the 4 previous games. Well the Lakers did have a productive 4th scoring 25 pts, the Rockets just scored 5 more.
Doug really isnt that bad, he is certainly not the worst but he personally doesnt add the same sort of insight as Hubie Brown or JVG does. He does a lot of stating the obvious or relying on past history (how many times have we seen the Team A to build a lead only to lose it?) to do his insight. I think Doug does really like Yao and the Rockets but the nature of his business forcing him to be a front runner.
He usually annoys the hell out of me but he was good last night. He knows his stuff and gave Yao a lot of credit. But yeah, usually he never shuts up and magically seems to ALWAYS find a way to make a reference to how he coached "Michael". He did it last night too. The only TNT member that annoyed me last night (well, besides Charles) was Craig Sager. The best was his report on Battier's clearly busted eye brow that required stitching. Sager: "My sources tell me Shane Battier is in the locker room with a cut above his left eye that will require stitches. Back to you guys." THANKS FOR THE "UPDATE"!!!
The only positive thing in my memory of him is coaching the Bulls and MJ. I don't pay so much attention to commentators but he seems like an interesting guy.
Did you see Phil Jackson verbally assault Sager during his gametime interview? Sager actually turned a little red.
So, has anyone noticed Yao's spin move into the lane? I love it. I think its the type of move that the sensationalism of the NBA will reward. Hello Western Conference Finals
i have respect for collins, as a player, a coach, and a commentator. he might be a little soft toned, but he's fair and sure gives viewers insights of bball just like hubie does. (but jvg is the best of all of them on national tv.)
