The Texans haven't been around long enough to b**** about bandwagon fans. Heck, I even jumped off the bandwagon when I thought they were throwing games in the Reggie Bush sweepstakes. I don't think I would again, but I'm not going to b**** about others bandwagoning.

...or perhaps there's quite a bit that can be gleaned from making judgments about people based on superficial things?

It's a game. Look at how someone treats his family. Look at how he manages his finances. Look at whether he bounces from job to job or whether he sticks by his friends through thick and thin. Look at whether he does what he says he will do.

But if he's not as interested in a football team whenever they lose? Come on, man. Let's not be that shallow.

I'm a die-hard Texans fan, have been a season ticket holder for 3 years, and have cheered this team on with all my heart from day one. With that being said, if somebody like ME is even teetering towards the edge of indifference about the team, why should I expect someone who has no ties to the football team to live and die by them? They have literally done JACK **** in their entire existence, and it seems like everybody from the ownership down to the janitors doesn't know the first thing about what it takes to win in the NFL. If I was a transplant or a casual fan looking for a team to root for, I can sure as hell say I wouldn't pick this group of sad sack losers. Why would I subjugate myself to the same torture every single Sunday when I really don't have any emotional ties to the city, or the team itself? That would just be asinine. I would, however, single out Andre Johnson, and root for him like it was going out of style.

No one is saying that bandwagon fans are puppy murderers or something.

But if sports is really important to the bandwagoner... is it really that superficial?

If the subject matter is superficial, then the judgment is superficial. No more, no less. We all know that.

All I know is, I've never gotten along well with people that turn out to be frontrunners and bandwagoners... whether that's coincidence or not, who knows.

They aren't bad people...they are just extremely annoying, and generally don't know what they are talking about when it comes to the teams they are "fans" of.

Why do you assume sports is important to him?

Now here's an interesting angle of it. Guy who is in and out depending on whether the team merits interest from the casual fan is one thing...

...blowhard who trumpets his ever-changing opinion with swagger and know-it-all smugness, about the team he just adopted two weeks ago (or critical of the team most people in the room are supporting) is just being a horse's end. or maybe pushing people's buttons because he considers it fun.

Yeah, exactly. In truth, the ones who know they aren't big fans and are just "along for the ride" when the team is good don't really bother me. I like it better when the stadium is packed and people in the bars are cheering, even if they aren't all diehards.

The other ones...those I don't like so much.

The Texans as an organization have not yet proven to me that they are (1) Competent and (2) dedicated to winning. Until they do that, I will never be a die hard fan like I am with the Rockets. I root for them no matter what and continue watching games even when they are on a bad streak. The Texans on the other hand, have given me nothing but disappointment mediocrity and it seems they are contempt with that. Until they prove me otherwise, they are not worthy of my complete support.

I'm contempt with that, too! And I won't be content until the mediocrity for which I have so much contempt is behind us!

    Who said I'm assuming...?

Speaking of context, when you say "him", it seems to imply one specific person, since I actually spoke towards one specific bandwagoner already in this thread. "Them" would have been a little more appropriate/less confusing given the subject matter, since plurality was a given.

So yeah, help yourself to some of that dinner while you're at it. :p

Gotcha. Regarding that post, if we all know that the judgment is superficial, why go to the trouble? Live and let live.

hah! Yeah, I wasn't thinking of your little barb at DD in the least. "Him" was obviously a reference to the generic "bandwagoner" you're judging, either superficially or not superficially, depending upon whether or not sports is really important to him... ;)
