I once answered my door to an unannounced visitor. Next thing I knew I had the butt end of a 9mm pounding me in the head. After I came to, all I saw was a gun pointed at me. I gave the nice men money that they requested, and out he went.

On the plus side, these guys didn't stay over very long!

    Needless to say,

    1.) don't EVER open the door to a pop-in.

    2.) Don't live in Houston.

I don't like it very much, mainly because sometimes when I don't expect visitors my place is not all that tidy (clean yes, but stuff lying all over the place, etc.).

Sometimes it can be nice, though.

Don't misunderstand... I did pop-in's and pop-outs and pop-arounds into my 30's. It just doesn't happen in the neighborhood we're in now. I know a couple of neighborhoods where it might be OK (here in Austin), but things have changed a lot. I still can't get used to someone calling up to arrange a "play-date" with one of my kids. What tha hell is a "play-date"?? It's bizarro world!

being in college, having a nice house, and being in fraternity... my day wouldn't be complete unless we had a few pop-ins.

it's been happening so much the past 3 years, i'm almost oblivious to it.

I'm with you. I miss the days of hanging out in the dorm and just going around trying people's rooms when you're bored, to see what's going on. Or having them do the same. The real world does seem to be different, which is sad.

It's just a wonder anybody has any friends at all anymore. Everything has to be so formal. Planned in advance. So, what do you do if you didn't have anything planned? Just sit around in your house, I guess. Or try calling people... but a lot of people don't want to make any plans any sooner than two days before whatever they're going to do. (I like the types who say "hey, want to get together and do something now?" or "want to come over?". Probably more fun than whatever you were both doing at home by yourselves.)

My house is a mess. I don't have any good friends in this town, really, so I know no one is coming over. If we did, we'd keep it a little bit better... but, as long as they don't mind the mess, I don't mind them being here. If you're "unpresentable" for any reason, just don't answer the door. I do assume you locked it. It's not like they have to see you in the middle of whatever you're doing. :D

The real world, in America, in 2004... blows. I don't like it. That's why I hang around college as much as I can.

I like it. It's like finding five bucks in your pocket when you put on some pants. It isn't like you are getting anything you didn't already have, but it is still a pleasant surprise.

I'm never home during decent hours, so it's not a problem with me. IF somebody does knock on my door, I always check the peep hole - no matter what time of day.

I do sometimes go over to others houses, but only those who I know welcome drop-ins. Everyone else, I call and say I'm in the neighborhood, if they say it's ok, then I'll go for a visit.

Hell yes...What if I was with a girl, a playboy, or etc...

Anyways, I like my space and if I just want to order pizza and watch the game by myself, then I should be able to uniterrupted...

One of the worst fights I have had with my dad in the last 5 years happened because he just popped over to my house one night without calling or anything.

I chewed him out for it and it hurt his feelings - took him like a week to get over it. His excuse was something to the effect of "Where I come from, we always have our door open for family."

However, he hasn't really done that since then.

I guess I just enjoy having my privacy.

So, to answer the question of this thread - hell yes, I get mad if this happens but I will admit that I am guilty of doing this myself (I don't try to do this anymore but sometimes I will still do it without thinking).

I get mad if anyone shows up at my house unannounced!

This includes family and friends, and everyone close to me knows to call ahead of time.
