Ok I guess I will "suck on that," but you are missing my point.

Just because you stick a group of loud, obnoxious people in one corner of a library, sports arena, cafeteria, restaraunt, office, school, or whatever, doesn't mean that that place is "rowdy."

I'm not saying the Rowdies shouldn't be applauded for their efforts, but it is a flawed system. If the rest of the arena doesn't want to yell and scream, putting a bunch of obnoxious jackholes in the corner of the arena doesn't help the situation. If anything, it's going to make the people who aren't screaming not cheer at all.

The only way to bring a "rowdy" atmosphere to Toyota Center is by an exciting product on the court, and a group on grassroots loyal "rowdy" fans.

Throwing a bunch of people together and hiding them in on the baseline in the corner is not going to accomplish that. The whole arena needs to be encompassed, not just one segregated group of fans.

That's what wrong with the Rowdy system. It's not the individual Rowdies fault, it's the Rockets organization that can't get people excited enough to cheer or stay in their seats.

I find that the reason we need them is annoying.
Even during the championship years alot of people at the games are socialites and not fans.

I dont find them annoying at all- they get some enthusiasm into the lower bowl. In the Toyota Center, other fans need encouragement to cheer. Also, im pretty sure that if they sing that song, my head will explode.

    on a side note-
tinman, you need to set carmichael dave straight in the NBA dish thread about Dwight Howard. Its turned into a debate about how the Rockets won 2 titles because of Jordan's retirement.... we all know how that goes.

    don't be annoying :p

I can't help but think this thread is equivalent to someone starting a "Do you find tinman's posts annoying?" haha. similar concept. Rowdie diehards reminding us to be part of a tradition and people getting annoyed about it. This is the ROCKETS...not a Yao Ming time-capsule.

This is the ROCKETS...not the 9pm, after-dinner entertainment of a steakafied business meeting with clients.

So your OPINION is that the "Rowdy System" doesn't work .

Using your logic, the Rockets should dump the PA announcing too? Why stop there, dump the Power Dancers.

Hell, get rid of the players themselves. Afterall, if they were better than people would have something to cheer about. Since they aren't cheering, the "Player System" has failed. So lets get rid of them too.

Dude, just chill. Your complaint is that TC isn't enthusiastic enough so your solution is to get rid of the Rowdies?

Fact is, people are buying tickets specifically to sit by the Rowdies. THAT IS PROOF ENOUGH that they Rowdy System works. Cash is king. Your opinion is not king.

Here's the thing I have about the whole Jordan/Rockets thing. I think its fine for Carmichael to say that cause he didn't come here as a Rocket's fan. So if you are from Chicago or Sacremento, I understand how you are brainwashed. I understand that you don't watch the Rockets cause we're never on TV back then.

The problem I always have had is that people HERE WHO CLAIM TO BE ROCKETS FANS have that view. I'll drop him a note. ;)

Sounds more like a cheer for the Wizards when Arenas returns.

I agree it would be great if all of Toyota Center was rowdy but for better or worse that's not going to happen so why not have one rowdy section? As I said before this isn't tennis and cheering is part of the experience of going to a game.

I don't care if its Ron Artest, he couldn't save the Bulls from all those times we beat them in the 80s and early 90s.

I was accosted at gun point by several liquored up 'red rowdies' -- I am one of many that have been terrorized by these hooligans.

IMO, the Rowdies get less rowdy every season. I think the first group was the loudest and most genuinely enthusiastic. The current group is still infinitesimally better than the silent suits that fill the rest of the lower bowl though. :(

Im glad to let you know. Im just gonna sit back and enjoy the show :D Thanks for reviving that epic thread. My wish is that we could have faced Jordan in the Finals to prove to everyone else what we were made of.

On a separate note, does anyone seriously think that Jordan was so amazing that he could in 8 TITLE IN A ROW? I dont care who you are, it just seems too unlikely that the season long marathon leads to championships for the same team for almost a decade. Teams have a hard enough time going back to back.

The NBA is all about matchups, remember when Dallas lost in the 1st round to Golden State, that was the worst matchup they could have.

Same for Seattle vs Denver. Seattle was great playing illegal defense against Centers (which is alot easier than playing illegal defense against a non post position). Mutumbo was a defender and that young Denver team could run and shoot.

The worst matchup for the Bulls was the Rockets and its been well documented by the Bulls and Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan.
oh well. I'm glad we got ours. I'm glad some of us still love those teams and remembered what really happened when MJ and Dream faced off.

Actually its sitting next to people like you thats annoying. Jackass its a sporting event. Maybe we could loose our "worst home court" tag if corperations and snooty people who are just there for social standing points would stop buying up all the good seats.

This is good to see. The red rowdies are starting to bother the lame ass do gooders that fill up our seats and give us a bad repitation. Cmon red rowdies keep it up, maybe you will start to run off some of these fake sports fans. Send their asses back to the ballet or the opra. HELL YEH!!!! take back basketball for the real fans.

PS it figures that someone with one of the hugest corporatoins as part of their nickname would be one who is crying about loud fans at a sporting event.

Okay. I held off long enough.

The Red Rowdies do not bother me. I like them. I think they are great for Toyota Center. I think they are great for the Houston Rockets. I wish more fans were enthusiastic like they are for 48 minutes. I try and do my part when i am at the games. I sit on the same side as the Rowdies. I can see them pretty well. They do a great job...

But, I sorta have a gripe with them. They just don't seem as loud or rowdy as in years past. In the past, I could hear them coming through my TV. When I went to games, I could hear them for all 48 minutes. It was damn impressive.

This years... I don't know about them. When I see RocketsTV (the in house camera) pan to them, they all of a sudden start getting noisy, and screaming their heads off. It just seems like they're not in for the full 48. Maybe the original culture of the Red Rowdies has worn off. They used to be the loudest of the entire arena shouting defense, or chanting something else. Now they just sound blended in with the rest of the arena. Maybe they need to send the originals back in. I see nothing but gimmicks in the Red Rowdies.

It seems like I am not the only ones that noticed. People said they aren't as loud as they used to be.

Please don't be me up current Rowdies.
