Do you find it annoying when our players try to flop instead of play like a man?

CP4 has no right to talk mess to floppers. He is one of the biggest non-European floppers out there. He flops way more than a fish out of water.

How do you watch Kevin Martin and fail to see him flop on offense? I hate it but if it works by all means keep doing it.

But it does not work in crunch time and he always tries to flop his way to the foul line and the refs don't call it down the stretch. It does seem like he is flopping less late in games now though.

The Lakers would have no titles in the last few years were it not for flopping. You do what it takes to win.

You're right about the Durant call not being a flop -- I think this thread just got me fired up to rant a little bit about the ridiculous of today's NBA officiating.

As far as Martin defensively, I don't really recall him flopping too much.. but I guess you'd also have to be in the position to flop (draw the charge). Scola finds himself in that position much more since he plays down low.

Offensively, most of Martin's flops come off the drive. It's not a traditional flop in that he doesn't fall down. Instead, he drivers into his man, screams, then fades away to get off his shot or pass the ball (if he doesn't hear a whistle). At times, him, Lowry and Scola look like they want to draw the foul more than make the basket -- it drives me nuts.

I agree that he's not looking to flop every time down the court.. but a lot of his points come as a result of him 'embellishing' the 'contact'.

The only way to get a charge called is for the defender to be stationary outside the arc, have the offensive player drive into him & he goes down. If the defensive player remains upright & motionless, he's probably gonna get called for blocking. THE ONLY WAY TO GET A CHARGE CALLED IS FOR THE DEFENSIVE PLAYER TO GO DOWN!! Until the refs start calling real charges, players are gonna assist them in making the calls. I blame the refs for all the flopping thats going on.

I don't mind the defensive flopping to accentuate the charge call.

I HATE the offensive flopping, where you try to get a foul rather than score the ball.

I would not mind it if it was occassionally, but think if you do it all the time, eventually the refs grow weary and it hurts the team.

haha, is that a dis on Martin's defense.

Let's all note, charging is not the only call you can get defense. Ginobody is the master flopper of faking contact when he's fighting through a PnR screen. I swear it was part of Pops, Sloan's and the Mav's defensive preparation to look to get Yao in foul trouble by flopping on Yao's pick for the TMac PnR. Remember, JVG paid $125k on this point.

    DaDakota:

I think defensive flopping on the PnR is one of the most annoying flops there is. And it does pass your criteria of hurting your team if you don't get the call. You screw your team, because you just fell down on a -- now -- very successful pick and roll.

Defenders can also flail on fake contact to the head, too. It's not just charge calls.

You are so right. I dont like these wussy tactics at all. It annoys me even more when they are coming from guys on our team.

You will realise a few years ago when we were gritty, we never would have gone so low with all the flops. But now, all these wussy tactics are applauded and recommned by Aldeman. He is turning our team more pu$$y/siisy/Wussy each and every day.

    Houston Rockets all flopping team

MVP Kevin Martin (possiblly best in the league)
Runner up Luis Scola (regarded as mvp by most laker fans)
In third Kyle Lowry ( Scola being his idol)
Honerable Mention: Shane Battier mostly on Defense (flopping since his Duke days)

It's when he dives into his defender when driving to the basket and acts as if he was hit when there's not much if any contact, the pump fake is solid as long as they jump into you and not the other way around.

    ^^^ This.
I've been saying this for years. Taking a charge is not flopping because falling down is the only way the refs will call a charge. If you don't fall, they are going to call a blocking foul even though it's the offensive player who run into you. So blame the officiating. Don't blame the players.

I also think intentionally raising your arms underneath the defender's extended arm to draw a foul is BS. Again, don't blame the players. Blame the officiating.

I'd say most flopping happens because of the way the refs call the game. The only "bad" flopping I hate is faking a foul when there is no or minimal contact.
