Let me guess - you probably didn't think Lebron deserved the max before last season. You know, because he's all chokey and bad under pressure, amirite?

I think Rockets move to about 4th best backcourt in the NBA. Behind only 1. Kobe/Nash 2. CP3/Billups 3. Williams/JJohnson IMO

There are some risks, but here's why I'm comfortable with the max:

His True Shooting Percentage is 66%. That's ridiculous.

He brings extra buzz to our team that can hopefully make Houston more attractive on the market.

    Yep.

I really wish we still had Lowry now, though. Lowry is the perfect complement to Harden. Oh well...

If Joe Johnson got a 4yr/$60mil contract from the Hawks instead of a 6yr/$120mil contract, no one would've given a damn about it. If anything, people would've thought it was a good contract. Comparing contracts of players with different salary scale is misleading and quite frankly, utterly r****ded.

I don't really mind giving up Martin and a unproven (but good potential) rookie like Lamb for Harden. I am a little disappointed in the draft picks :(

Joe Johnson is exactly what I thought of when I heard about the trade. Let's hope it turns out better than that.

Thats the only reason why I dont feel all that thrilled because he is not a num 1 go to guy. He is a num 2 go to guy. I felt we should be waiting for a num 1 go to guy. OKC couldnt win with him on their team, and they had Durant and Westbrook.

So theoretically we will need better players then Durant and Westbrook.

These Joe Johnson comparisons don't work. Harden already had a higher PER last season than Joe Johnson ever has in his career.

Harden's PER last year at age 22 was 20.9. Johnson's best season was at age 25 when he had 19.5 PER.

Harden is not at his peak yet and he's already a better player than Johnson has ever been.

If players like Brook Lopez and Eric Gordon get the max I am comfortable with Harden getting that much.

I wonder what Mark Cuban feels about this trade. He was gonna offer Harden max as well. :p

For what it's worth, I favored tanking before this trade and your concern that we might wind up picking 14th again is not unfounded.

That said, Harden is already an elite scorer, and at 23, he has the potential to be a true franchise player. Players like that are almost never available. When one shakes loose, you do what it takes to get him, no questions asked. You trade whatever it takes, you pay the max salary, and you worry about the rest of the roster later.

    This was a huge win.

I think this will be like a Joe Johnson. Forced his way to Atl, became an all str, but didn't have the talent around him to be a contender.

Some people are putting too much value on draft picks. Look at the last two year of NBA Rookie teams. There is a mix. Most lottery picks do not become stars. Unless you are getting the top pick, it's a craps-shoot.

    2011-12 NBA
    1st Team
    Kenneth Faried
    Kyrie Irving
    Ricky Rubio
    Klay Thompson
    Brandon Knight (tie)
    Kawhi Leonard (tie)
    Iman Shumpert (tie)

    2nd Team
    MarShon Brooks
    Chandler Parsons
    Isaiah Thomas
    Tristan Thompson
    Derrick Williams
    2010-11 NBA
    1st Team
    DeMarcus Cousins
    Landry Fields
    Blake Griffin
    Gary Neal
    John Wall

    2nd Team
    Eric Bledsoe
    Derrick Favors
    Paul George
    Wesley Johnson
    Greg Monroe

Woah, woah. Not so fast me amigos. Is Harden really worth a max contract? The guy who not only disappeared at the wrong time, but has also been a little inconsistent of late. I'm just sayin'.
