I love my career. Being an accountant is great, but my job has its ups and downs. I'm kind of bored now that tax season has come and gone.
I hate my job and am currently in the process of looking for other employment. FYI Logistics business sucks big donkay balls!
Job is great, work is work. I'm a creative manager / art director for a small agency, running the creative department that I built from the ground up starting about 15 years ago... Nowadays 99.9% of the time doing so from the comfort of my home office which is now near Austin. Pay has never been that great, and the Economy could be better, but that's made my current situation possible, which I love. I'm just hoping it lasts, and maybe becomes just a bit more lucrative in the near future. Times like these, and I'd like to think due somewhat to alleged maturity from the years, make me realize how good it is, and not sweat the small stuff so much. Liking my boss and coworkers (as well as not being around them much) doesn't hurt.
I love my night job. It just doesn't always pay well. So I work during the day to make ends meet. Day job sucks, but it's a means to an end, and when I keep that in mind, it doesn't suck so bad.
I'm unemployed right now, but losing my last job might be the best thing that ever happened to me. I hated that place; I have no idea how I managed to stay there for three years.
I tried to do that, but I have so much vacation time built up they just said, help us hand off your biz dealings and take vacation..... I was like...uh....SURE !!! And honestly, rarely do people get to work 2 weeks in our line of work they want you out ASAP, so you don't steal their people -pffft...like that would stop me..... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA ! And Scribo, no, I was not mixed up in that, but I do know Jason West, and the details...it is fairly ugly...basically Activision did not want to pay them the millions they are contractually owed. I expect a settlement.....and the new company to do very well...... I am off on a new adventure....and am trying hard not to tell my old boss to "go suck an egg"......he called wanting to "hug it out" and I was like.....nah...I mean the dude is a Laker fan.....(Shudder) DD
I made a decision when I was young to use my brainpower to circumvent becoming a part of the petty American rat race. It's working out great. I don't recommend this to people who don't know what they want or aren't passionate/charismatic enough to go about getting it. Say what you want about men like DD, but you know the guy isn't going to be a lapdog sitting quietly in a cubicle and internally lamenting his 9-5 so he can move closer to that 401k, upgrade to a house in the suburbs, pay for his kids college education etc... the guy is going to get out there and make something happen. Very depressing thread to be honest, the only thing worse than making 5 figures is being miserable doing it. Remember gentlemen, fortune favors the bold.
Exactly. I see a lot of DD envy - he has probably done a lot more than most of those who think they need to mock him.
That's what comes with having drive. Everybody wants to level the playing field - so you try to bring down those larger than you by merging with those just as small. It's a metaphor derived from corporate America. But inside the belly of the beast you'll find common traits that allow them to look past this - self-motivated due to a strong internal belief, intuition, composure under fire, an ability to deal with and learn from failures. It's not always meant to be smooth sailing, and by putting yourself out on a limb you not only acknowledge this but challenge the bumps on the road instead of it being the other way around.
Unfortunatly I am larger than most everyone on here and not in a good way ! But thanks for the kind words, I am going golfing tomorrow, and starting on my new gig on Monday..... DD
I didn't think so. Hopefully the Infinity Ward guys do well. Good luck to you as well. Props for heading off to find a better opportunity, hopefully not with a Jazz Fan. Looking forward to hearing more about the company you're starting up down the road. I don't get to play as many games as I used to, but I find the business side of it fascinating.
I will let folks know here as soon as I can, but right now...it is hush hush. BTW - I just went over the recent public filings of the job I just left, and while they are losing money, my moronic boss paid himself a bonus of $153,000 last year..... And he has the gall to tell everyone at the company they have no money for raises, trust me, that is going to be coming up in other employees negotiations. I mean when you are losing money and are on investors dollars you need to be more prudent....overall he paid himself $400k......on a year in which we lost more money than ever.......so, uh....that is one of the big reasons I left..... I smell investor lawsuits at some point. DD
Congrats DD on taking a stand and getting out of a situation you weren't happy in. Good luck to you on your next endeavor!
I think I'm going to go back to school. I work in politics and it seems every job has garbage pay. I'm thinking of finishing my finance degree at UT that I never bothered to complete.
i was going to make a new thread, but this thread will do. if you don't like your job, do you quit or stay at the job? do you find another job before quitting? your thoughts?
you should definitely keep your job and search for a new one in your spare time. unless your job is really bringing you down in a negative way, dont quit without another job secured. also, you should put in a 2 week notice. in case the new job doesnt work out, you are still in your old boss' good graces. if you just straight up quit and the new job doesnt pan out, then you are royally screwed.
