I have a job I love to make up for JV doing a job that pays. We figured at least one of us should do what we want career wise.

After culinary school I had a few positions that were less than pleasurable. Now I teach hands-on cooking classes part time and take care of our four kids the rest of the time. I work almost from home and whatever hours I want. I get paid decently for the time I am working and the food is great.

Even so, I hope not to be doing this ten years from now and I'm looking for my next career move.

    not looking for any sympathy

but work sucks. so i'm gonna hafta get out soon and find something else. It's more the specific job than the industry, so i'll find something along the same lines and it'll improve (hopefully)

Wow this thread is depressing but makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only one unhappy. Wanting a career change all together. I have a 5 month old son and a wonderful woman that I just want to do more for. It's not horrible, I'm generally happy, but I want and need more for them. I guess I just need to stay strong and focused and hope my hard work will pay off. Good luck everyone, seems like most of us need it.

I used to do Development. It does kind of have its perks. What is it you like about it?

Did that a few years ago for Hospital and EMS service centered in Bryan, Tx. Great job, great company.

I don't enjoy my job mainly because the pay sucks....but it's part time, and I'll be out of it soon enough once I graduate.....

I work as a web designer at a local company, and I voted "Has its ups and downs". When I'm actually building websites, I do love it, and time absolutely flies by. But there's more to it, like designing e-mail newsletters, preparing and giving presentations to clients, etc. That stuff I could do without.

And I wouldn't define loving my job as being excited to wake up in the morning. Unless it's Christmas and I'm less than 16 years old, I really don't look forward to waking up for anything.

See that guy in the middle of the bridge... the bridge going over the East Fork of the Flathead River on the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park? The guy that's getting paid to not let anyone go past the midpoint of the bridge because we're getting ready to light off a bunch of ground between the river and the hill? That's me. I do enjoy my job. (At least that part of it.)

As I've been saying for way too long now, there's a reason they call it work instead of party.

I love it when I actually get to sit down and develop some feature.

I hate it when I spend all my time interfacing with customers, doing testing, or other managerial duties.

I'm lucky to be a musician and play and sing five nights a week, no traveling, no setting up equipment, only work three hours a night and I get paid way more than I should.

My relationship with my past career soured over time. I went from loving my job (i.e. workplace/coworkers) and hating my work to hating my job and loving my work, and then eventually hating both. I could never find the right balance really. There was always something missing.

I like the field I'm in now, but it can definitely have it's ups and downs. It really depends on what specific task I'm given. If it's monotonous and tedious, I tend to grow disinterested. But then along will come a project that is complex and engaging I'm back on the horse again. My company is great and the people I work with are awesome, but unfortunately I think I've hit the ceiling already in terms of advancement so I'll have to look elsewhere soon for more opportunity.
