I agree with this, but no one should be able to start a new post in a Rants Forum. A mod should relocate posts that rant to the Rant Forum and then if you want to reply or bash you can do it in there. And maybe give those posts a limited shelf life. Maybe they can expire after a week or something?

oh... shouldn't this thread be in the feedback forum?? :(

I like gutter snipe's idea. Game action - plays, player analysis, discussion. Rants - emotional blasts. Perhaps another site for flame wars. "You boys need to take this outside". Auto-Redirect flames there.

I read it, but an influx of crazy newbies and a bunch of knee jerk (off) posters are making me skip it more and more often.

Perhaps we should implement some sort of e-Kleenex to send to the criers. WAHHHHHH!!!

    ;)

Its kinda sad now that WindandSea has become such a downer.

"Rudy and the NBA have betrayed us"

I like the game posts that Clutch puts up...nice.

I know that I have complained about it and I even had a thread a couple of weeks ago bemoaning about how that forum has driven me to becoming a Hangout poster.

However, two things that we all need to remember:

    1) For whatever reason, almost all new people to this place post exclusively in the Rockets Forum. Very few people start off with good posts and the fact that they are posting in that forum makes for a lot of crappy posts.

    2) I think you have 3 groups of fans here, not counting the trolls:

    a) The Homers - they feel that no player can ever do anything wrong nor can Rudy or CD or anyone else associated with the Rockets has made a bad move.

    b) The Realists - these fans are more realistic about things and about the shortcomings of Rudy and the players. Some take it to extremes sometimes like ZRB, leebigez, and kidrock8, but they refuse to live in a world where they think everything is okay, no matter what.

    c) The Bandwagoners or Fairweather Fans - these fans have 2 characteristics...when things are going well, they talk about how pleased with so and so or with this or whatever; however, when things are going bad, they are immediate in criticizing Yao or Rudy or whoever. I think that most of us can be fairweather from time to time, but the ones that are really bad are those that remain silent for a long time and then just explode with "see I told ya so 5 months ago." Yet these people will be the same ones that if the Rockets make the playoffs will say "I knew we could do it!" Trolls, which aren't a group of fans, fit the closest to this category.

Now each group has characteristics about themselves that can make for some volatile situations, i.e. when the Homers go up against some of the extreme realists. However, you throw trolls in and you can see why a lot of those threads get so bogged down and seem to be the same thing over and over again.

I think Clutch's (or HP's) idea of using a sticky for the next game is a great one. However, so many threads are started in that forum that place just explodes sometimes. The next thing you know, a thread that looks to be good gets pushed to the 2nd page. And honestly, how many people go to the 2nd page to read a thread, especially when there are so many threads like there are in that forum?? I would guess not many.

I remember one thread in there from the summer that had posts from Live, Relativist, oeilpere, aelliott, NIKEstrad, tpl, heypartner, etc. Man, that was a great thread to read. Those are the threads that would make the Rockets Forum my #1 choice in reading stuff here. Maybe, this can be done:

Clutch can find a thread in that forum that he thinks is really good because of the discussion. It doesn't have to be one started by a NIKEstrad or Live or someone like that, but it should be a thread that would encourage some of the better Rockets forum posters or even the old school ones like MManal, verse, thacabbage, etc. to post in. Make this thread a sticky for a day and hopefully, that can help things out a lot. Also, as hard as it is to do sometimes, if we see a thread that is obviously an effort in trolling, then we should ignore it and look for better things to read.

It is great that so many new people have registered here, but it has its drawbacks sometime in that there are lots of stuff that has to be filtered out.

imo, there are far more good new posters this year than any other year.

you just need a better squelch control.

happy hunting...also, please use the Clutch Game Thread. One hour after the game, things really get civil in there, and the next day I find the best posts. People are giving good insights to the game.

Clutch, I'd give anything to have back the feature where the Ignore List makes an entire thread go away. *sigh*

In light of Clutch and DoD's suggestions and reminders about using CC.net Game Thread, I don't know if this is already happening because I don't see the BBS during the games, but can we make a request of the admins to monitor that Thread closely during games for trolls and flame wars, and to eradicate the thread of it.

Let's not allow the Game Thread to get the same bad reputation that the entire forum is getting.

    HP,

I am not discounting your opinion about the new posters being some of the best we have had; however, I want to see some of the old school posters post in that forum more...guys like verse, thacabbage, MManal, Almu, Antisonic, Relativist, NIKEstrad, Live, etc.

Since I am not "old school", I missed those "golden days"when every thread in that forum was worth reading. I can't help but wonder if a lot of those old-school posters are disgusted with that forum like we are & that is why they hardly post anymore.

    Manny,

I spent 1 yr before ever coming to this forum, and the *only* reason I return is for the LeGrouper type humor here.

If the old timers stop posting frequently, well, they stop posting. There is nothing we or the admins can do about it.

Every new poster has the potential to be as stellar as anyone else. I've seen it happen time and time again....and I'm telling you all, there are some stellar new posters out there.

it is just harder to find...but they are there.

Get your ass off your in arears-Best Poster Hangoutwagon and quit complaining. The good writing is there, and if great writers leave because of the popularity of the site...so be it.

Funny thing is is that I don't see too many people in this thread who I consider to be BBall forum posters. Did Crisco chime in..no. Did verse...no....Did NIKEstrad...no. Who?? So really, why should the BBall forum really care about your opinion.

and R0ckets03...you are Mr "Cato Sucks" left and right...so ease up. This thread sucks.

It makes me really think there is a Hangout clique of obnoxious lurkers who aren't really lurkers cause they build a rep in Hangout and then think they can tell the Admins how to run the Main Forum.

In my most best Social Ass Clown r****dedness...let me say this

Either put up or shut up. It isn't your forum to complain about unless you partake and give kudos to new posters...sheesh

    Easy now, kids.

I don't regularly contribute to the GARM forum not because I'm some kind of Hangout snob, but rather because:

    1) my knowledge of technical basketball analysis is inversely proportional to the amount of Simpsons knowledge crammed in my brain.
    2) "I have an opinion!" just like Jimmy Fallon on Weekend Update, but by the time I post it, 4,564 other people have written the same thing.
    3) the negativity is alarming and is a definite turn-off.
    4) I don't know the regulars the same way I do in the Hangout (which is not necessarily bad, but it does color my perception).
    5) there seem to be a lot of repetitious and pointless threads (much more so than in the Hangout, which should be known for pointless threads, damnit!). I don't wish to add to the clutter.

I've noticed lately that there seems to be a slight polarization of Hangout and GARM posters. We, the Hangout'ers attack the GARMies and vice versa. This is not a (cold) war. This is not even West Side Story. One BBS. One family. As Seinfeld said, "Look to the cookie!"

... But if you want to rumble, I'm game.

    WHICH SIDE WILL YOU CHOOSE?

(... Relax HP! I'm only kidding!)

I know I'm new but the "Action" forum seems like a bore unless for sure we are playoff bound.

    "Fan" has lost all meaning.

Does anyone remember the dues the Rockets had to pay to get the rings???? (with the Dream?????)

    Go Rockets!!!

    p.s. Surfguy is a NERD
