Don't really pay attention I buy what is the better product in my opinion. I don't care where it comes from. Naw Only if it is better that other products around.
For shoes and suits, definitely. Shoes from Alden, and suits from Hickey Freeman and Brooks Brothers. In electronics, most of my HT gear is from Mcintosh, Miller and Kreisel, and JBL Synthesis. These destroy any imported product you'll find in Best Buy Magnolia. For cars, no. I'll stick to German. American to me means better made (not cars though) but at a higher price, yet I always do buy it anyway. Certain economists and consumers who champion their ideology say American products provide lower "value", but that's not entirely true because the lost manufacturing jobs have an adverse long-term effect on our society. The ultra-low prices in Wal-mart for Chinese goods are 'subsidized' by Americans consumers whose own wages have been slashed by corporations increasing earnings per share by cutting costs in wages. Ironically, many poor Americans who shop there end up continuing the very process of lost American jobs. There's no such thing as a free lunch; buying cheap products from China will come back to hurt you or your fellow Americans. Inevitably, Chinese balance sheets are exploding with American cash and soon their own rising domestic and regional markets won't make them as desperate for US consumers as in the past. Though I'm often countered by the pro-business/pro-consumerism crowd who say only a service sector with a skilled workforce dependent on consumer spending for GDP is enough to keep America #1, and to let globalization have its way. But, I'll leave further discussion of this issue to D&D.
North Texas food bank says $1 can feed 4 people, and that's in the U.S. I can live on $2.50 worth of food per day in the U.S. (not that i necessarily do). I'm sure people can make do with 60 cents at some places.
Capitalism is the American way. Thus buying American just because it's American would actually be anti-American. And I'm not anti-American. USA! USA! USA!
