Well then no wonder Elvis is excluded from this rule.
I wonder about Jerry Lewis too, perhaps he should have helped write and perform in Thriller. Oh but that's all forgotten. They were just allegations and never proven right? Unlike MJ who had the allegations against him proven to be true. Rrrrrright!

That's understandable. I don't really feel Elvis, The Beatles, or a number of other groups that many call influential myself.

All good, I get your point though, you're just discussing musically.

    I still think you're wrong. :D

I'll reply to this post.. the rest pertinent to this thread.. is just mindless, unevolved, uneducated, narrow-minded drivle..

but I would unequivocally pick Michael Jackson's top 5 over Paul McCartney's, Elton John's.. and really, it would be toss up for me among the rest.. all depending on the mood..

it's ridiculous to think Michael Jackson's music trails in the slightest to any of those you selected.. especially to those knowledgable of music.. he's total body of work is highly appreciable.. very worthy.. from the intricacies.. to the palpable..

because someone knew him in mongolia you think its because of his music? do you think they have any other comparable comparisons to draw to his music?

he's know in mongolia because he's uber famous, and it maybe the only american music they've heard

For those of you who think that Michael Jackson music somehow doesn't matter anymore...respectfully ... you're nuts.

I STILL get pumped when I hear "Don't stop til you get enough". Rarely do dance mixes not include Michael Jackson music and he is a HUGE influence on pop music, as Jeremy Piven cracked on the BET awards saying that if not for Michael Jackson, [Justin] would be selling curly fries in the Valley.

If you're not a pop music fan just say that, but to make it somehow believable that MJ's music doesn't matter is an impossible task...at best.

Also, out of the names you listed how many people do you hear jamming their songs anyway nowadays? I mean of all those musicians listed above, the only time you're going to hear their songs on the radios is if you turn to a specialty station.

I can't see how someone could come to such a conclusion.. other than faulty reasoning.. or lack of musical objectivity and prespective..

    for rap fans,

how often do you hear mike's music sampled. now there maybe a reason for that, maybe its too expensive to pay the royalties, but I've certainly never heard his music sampled as much as a say, james brown.

I've lived in 8 different countries in my life, been to more than 20 , everywhere I went, I saw things that had to do with Micheal Jackson. Posters, T-shirts, clothing, hairstyles, you name it, the guy was associated with things everywhere. These other guys you mentioned don't even register on the radar in some of these countries...he was the first true global star.

I don't know if he molested children, it's something the courts couldn;t find him guilty of, so I'll leave it to a higher power to judge him now. We do have proof of the many positive things he's done, so we should just focus on that.

I don't like his music either and never understood the appeal. I think Thriller is a catchy tune, but I don't like it personally. Smooth Criminal has an awesome sound to it. The rest of his music is just completely against my taste.

Since most folks have different musical tastes, there is nothing unreasonable with pgabriel stating that to him (pgabriel), Jackson's music is overrated.

Are you kidding me? Have you ever been out? You have to try hard to not get one of MJ's songs playing on a random night at a club/bar. I would hear it all the time. It's just that people notice it now more, because he's dead.

Also people listen to his songs much more all over the world. He didn't just get popular for the hell of it. He got popular because of his music. So to say he's popular but his music is not timeless is like an oxymoron.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums_worldwide

The guy with the number 1 selling album of all-time doesn't have great music...?. Seems like an opinion you're desperately trying to pass off as fact.

As for him paying off the kid's dad. Other people have made the point pretty clear. He did it because he could and didn't want to go through all the trials and regulations. He specifically cited O.J. Simpson. He said he didn't want a long drawn out case like O.J., and even if he was proved innocent (O.J.) the public would still believe he's guilty. That's why he paid off the SOB dad who was after money.

Yea, some guy sexually assaults my kid, and I'll just be happy with a couple million and shut up. F*** that! I'm doing ALL I CAN to see that man in prison. Anyone not after money would do that. Also the kid that accused Michael has came out and said that it was his dad that made him say those things. Watch the YouTube video from earlier in this thread as well that cites many many sources. Some people will believe what they want regardless of what's true or not.

    I really hope he didn't.

I really think he is messed up mentally from his father and his upbringing and all he wants to be is a kid.
