im talking about music. being in the music scene, ive never seen so many inspired people (djs to musicians to singers) been influenced by 1 man. nsync is just a spec of his influence.

That is why he sold a 85 mil worth of tickets in a day, because his music is old.

other than every R&B/Soul/Pop artist that has come out in the last decade or so he hasn't influenced anyone.

who's top five songs would you rather listen to right now,

    marvin gaye
    smokey robinson
    ray charles
    elton john
    paul mccartney
    michael jackson?

and i'm not just throwing out these names because they may have composed their own music or any type of standards. just throwing out names of guys associated with timeless music. is mike even in these guys' category.

and i don't mean to do this to be a jerk to mike, i don't have a problem with the coverage, he's obviously one of the most famous people to ever live. that's not up for dispute, i'm just talking about music.

not timeless? jackson sold out his 50 tours before he died in minutes. how many can do that after being out of touring scene for such a long time? when jackson died, all the dj's i know all over houston had done tributes not to mention the rest of the nation. many of the local htown bands even did covers.

Maybe because he had the resources to be able to afford to not take the risk of a trial? Would you have taken that risk?

That doesn't prove his innocence, but the fact that he settled certainly doesn't prove any guilt.

you are obviously off on a tangent here but I think the huge point you are trying to make is if someone said I am going to play 5 RANDOM songs from an artists catalog, Jackson would be very far down on the list. His top 5 is fine and can compete, but with someone like Ray Charles or Marvin Gaye you know you are going to hear quality timeless music on any 5 tracks.

differnt strokes for different folks. they're all great. and smokey was in michaels memorial dedicated his song and performance, elton just did a performance to dedicate to michael, paul has bee friends and did a duet to michael (somthing he'd never do if he didn have great respect), and ray embraced michael over the years....and for the arguement, i'd listen to michael at a club. they're all great and michael is with them plus in a different category by himself.

The only one I would pick over Mike of the ones you listed is Marvin.

The Thriller album has been certified 28x Platinum in the US and still sells over 100K copies a year. If that's not timeless, then I don't know.

And I'm by no means a fan. I knew him, his music, saw his performances on tv here and there, but didn't own any of his albums. In fact, I've been more inclined to buy some of his music lately (not since his death, but the past few years) as I've actually listened to it more. He was a great artist and did a lot of good in the world.

Don't know about the allegations. I think he was a very troubled man that was in the spotlight his entire life; under the microscope; didn't have a childhood.

I'll tell ya what though, I think one of the more endearing memories of him will be seeing his daughter get up on the stage and tell to him how great of a father he was and how much she loved him. That was genuine.

Sorry but there is no official news report that contains this anywhere, just blog postings that all link back to some other blog that links to some other blog, etc. I can't find a single news site that has this report, not even the original source.

    It's also worded pretty pathetically.

I can guarantee you that if you go around the world and poll people, MJ would be 1st on the list followed by any of Elton John, Marvin, Ray Charles or Smokey with Paul McCartney bringing up the rear.
Just a quote from a fmr HS buddy of mine from China who went to Mongolia 4 or 5 yrs ago. He was riding a horse in some little village in Mongolia and he comes across a poor villager. He stops and talks for a minute and the villager asks him where he is from. As soon as he says America, the villager replied-Oh Michael Jackson, I love Michael Jackson.
This is in 2004 or 2005, several years after Mj's classics.
I bet this goes on in many countries where the first musician that comes to the mind of others when talking about America or the Western world is not Elvis, Elton John or Paul McCartney but Michael Jackson.

to each his own, i find his music very untimeless, as a matter of fact i think his best songs were with the jackson five. and i'm not trying to be ridiculous or offensive

I was a kid when mike was blowing up in the early eighties, he's part of what defines my childhood. so like i say, this is not meant to insult, i've been holding this in for two weeks and I thought it was an appropriate thread.

I would never doubt his impact on pop culture, on pop music, his impact on the whole music video. i will never doubt the brilliance of the on stage performer he was. but when it comes to actual music, i'm not feeling it.

Yes, and you have bashed him in both threads. We get it, we understand you don't like him and he is guilty in your eyes. Get over it and move on yourself before telling others to do so.
