You're right. As part of a settlement with the victim to avoid further prosecution, he had to admit to some level of guilt. This is not common. Most people, particularly celebrities, insist on a denying guilt in their settlements. Heck, just look at the Michael Jackson settlement. He insists in his that he did nothing wrong and is only settling to avoid court. Rape Shield failed that girl in Colorado. She got trashed and ridiculed. Her name and picture and sexual history was put out for the whole world to see.
There is no denying that. You feel sorry for her if he got away with it because of what came out about her, but it was very deserved if she lied about it to make a quick buck. Nobody will ever know for sure, so you just have to go with what you think. All we know for certain is that Kobe isn't a stand up guy. Honestly, I wish more celebrities would just love their wives, and treat them with some level of respect.
But we do know for sure in this case. He admitted that he now sees why it was rape. So, since he doesn't deny it, I don't see why anyone else denies it for him.
Men don't commit rape for sex. So yes, Kobe could have gotten sex somewhere else, thats not the point. Men commit rape for psychological power trip reasons, so when the woman said no Kobe probably went a little nutty. The fact that the defendant made Kobe issue the statement basically acknowledging that she felt she was raped speaks volumes. She was raped so she bit and fought for everything! He raped her so he agreed to issue that statement. If he was innocent I believe he would have been far more adamant. Kobe absolutely raped her.
Since I posted in the Jackson thread, I'll post here as well. I think he probably did, but it's a lot less damning that the Jackson rumors. One the one hand, you have a girl who immediately cried out rape to a friend, but there is always the money angle to cloud that. If Bryant had multiple allegations of this type of behavior or had spent years trying to shake rumors of it, I would think it pretty likely.
I've been falsely accused of rape before, and I don't even have money to take. I would have done anything to make it go away. I also know a girl that completely fabricated a rape story, and later admitted to lying to everyone.
basing on character is what people are did/doing with michael jackson and did with mike tyson...no facts at all
Innocent people don't pay off the plaintiff AND admit guilt "just to make it go away." Kobe and his defense team played this perfectly. They smeared the girl and made life hell for her until SHE wanted it to go away. They then struck a deal with her to make that happen. But instead of just letting herself be bought off, she insisted that the man admit guilt. He raped her. By the way, sorry that you got falsely accused. That is a terrible thing to have to deal with. I feel for you. And to echo The Cat, what "facts" are these that are out there that point to his innocence? You morons pointing out that she had sex with other people are part of the problem with rape reporting in this country.
I think the better question is: because of the lack of facts, what evidence is there that proves Kobe did it? I'll admit my recollection is hazy, but did the girl/prosecution have anything, other than her word, as evidence?
She had a bruised jaw or neck (don't remember), blood stained underwear, and her blood was on Kobe's shirt. He also admitted it.
Mike Tyson was convicted in a court of law, no? I presume there were some facts presented at the trial.
Actually, several jurors convicted him only the grounds that the "victim" said she wasn't going to file a civil suit. It gave her credibility. Once she did, that "creditibility" was thrown out the window. They've said had they known she would do that, they wouldn't have convicted him. I can look it up, if anyone needs me to.
My question is... how the hell did her blood get on his shirt? They ruled that it wasn't her menstrual cycle so who the hell bleeds on their partner's shirt if the sex is consented? Unless they both liked it a little rough or something...
