I used to think that way..

We do not know what will happen after we die it is just one of those things we'll never know. But hypothetically, there is a heaven and hell after we die. We can say there is a 50 percent chance that this is true. Of course there is a 50 percent chance of this not being true but what if when the time comes it is? Wouldn't it be better to be prepared than not to be? What if it meant a chance to be reunited with a loved one? Of course nothing is guaranteed but wouldnt it be worth a chance? For a person who lost his mother just two weeks after his 18th birthday, this would be the only way I'll ever see my mom again. 50 percent is good enough.

Where is the evidence that would make this 50 percent probability?

Exactly. Because either it is (50%), or it isn't (50%). (=100%)

Yes, I believe in atoning one's sins and bad actions. This is done by committing to equally good acts to counter act what bad you may have done earlier in your life.

    Matthew 22: 1-14
1Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2"The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
4"Then he sent some more servants and said, 'Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.'

5"But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. 6The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

8"Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.' 10So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless.

13"Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

14"For many are invited, but few are chosen."

What is an equally good act? If I kill someone what do I need to do to atoin that sin? What about rape? Where are the rules for this or do we just find out the rules after it's too late? If I serve 25 years in the state pen, the US may say I've paid my dues - so have I - or do I need to donate $1000 to Robert Tilton Ministries?

One can change their evil ways, by say for example- committing the rest of their life to charity, helping the poor and disabled, etc..

I don't believe in a God, but I do believe in karma and fate.

Of course there is a Hell, we have been living it in the last 8 years under Dubya.

    WOW !!!!

I think that they are unfortunate, and we should help as much as we can.

I do NOT believe in Hell, I think it is made up by man to control the masses.

Just because I don't think there is a hell doesn't mean I'm not "prepared." I may not be a religious person, but I am a good person, and I know that. Sure, there might be a chance that I'm wrong, that we do go somewhere after we die... But honestly, I think this is it. I believe the world is our eternity of the moment. We should get the most out of our lives now, and no, I don't think we should all be hedonistic pleasure-seeking monsters. I might be reunited with a loved one after I die, but since I don't know that for sure, why not make the most of my time with him/her now? I don't live my life on a notion that I'm going to heaven or hell.

I understand that we should be helping the poor and starving and it is a very unfortunate situation. No one is debating that. But what can you attribute the reason one 5 year old boy is born to privilege in Connecticut and one 5 year old boy is born to famine in Somalia? Is it a mean and vengeful God, is it karma, is it chance/luck? Just wondering...

Honestly, I don't presume to understand anything, you may very well be correct and that they are paying for past lives sins.

But, if I had to guess, I would think it is a matter of chance, just luck.

I believe in hell, I just don't happen to believe in how certain organizations manipulate it into a scare tactic.

I don't think this has anything to do with a vengeful God, but these are the things that have happened since the fall of man.

If you happened to spend time with that 5 year old in Somalia you may find he is more blessed than the "priveledged" 5 year old in Conneticut. To who much is given much will be asked.

To each a portion is given and each has a responsibility to his portion. My choosing is that Christ be my portion forever and ever.

I'm not saying you have to become a member of Lakewood or any other church for that matter to attain everlasting life but to join the living church which is in Christ Jesus.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake
Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
Blessed is that servant whom his lord finds doing so when he comes
Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh
Blessed is he who is not offended by me
It is more blessed to give than to receive
Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered
Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin
Blessed is he who does not judge himself in what he allows
Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on
Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb
Blessed are those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city

I understand where you are coming from. When man get ahold of an ideal he creates religion. Just remember we have a righteous judge that in his time will judge all things. All will be revealed.

So it's 50/50 that the Greeks were right and we should all be sacrificing to Zeus? What about Persians and Zoroaster? Indians and Vishnu? Musilms and Allah? Man, that's a lot of 50/50's, I hardly even know which 50 percent chance to take!

That's like saying I have a 50 percent chance of dunking every time I get the ball in my hands. Because either I dunk (50%), or I don't (50%). In reality I couldn't dunk even if I was promised 72 virgins that looked like Jessica Alba in heaven.

    BINGO!

    There is no hell.
Hence, as balance dictates, there is no heaven.
    Following through, also no god.
    Be good to each other.
