Easy to say . . .. considering it would never happen . . .so why no say it
    1. What is a good job?
    2. Let's say they have an All Mexican Congress and vote to open the southern border. That is good for their constituency. It is good from their perspective.

Not necessarily YOU in particular, donny . . but most folx who say something this
by GOOD they mean . .They run it like I like it ran
[Or in a sense . . like the nearly all white congress is already running it]

Every starved? Every had to look at your child and tell them their is no Christmas because daddy refused a 'quota' job?

All that said. . . it is not about DIVERSITY . .. it is about DISCRIMINATION.
Why are there no black on his staff? Are you telling me. . . If you have a staff of 100 . .that each of those positions .. there was not 1 black person that has equal qualifications????
Mainly. . . the main qualification of jobs is .. I'm comfortable around the guy.
If they not comfortable around black folx. . guess who he not hiring????
    Same with gays, women, etc.
The reason the GOOD OLE BOY system was good for the GOOD OLE BOYS

When you making policy it is good to have diverse perspectives.
    1. To know the unintended consequences of an action from all groups affected.
i.e. To be stereotypical . .. A Tax on ChopStix may not sound like much but the the chinese restuarants it is a tax that seems like it is pointed at them.
    2. You not on HIGH preaching down to the masses.
i.e. WE KNOW what is best for YOU PEOPLE.

Swoly I did not know you were so Naive.
Without the NAACP,Etc - Jim Crowe would still exist.
Like Unions. . .you need them to make sure Jim does not COME BACK!!
    If you don't think so . . . again . . I believe you are being naive.
It is like building a dike to hold back the water. . .you don't tear it down because the water recedes.

If everyone is treated equally???? Is that happening now???? Did I miss a memo?
How does removing those groups allow it to happen???

It is almost like saying . .. IF THOSE MINORITIES DIDN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE UNEQUAL TREATMENT . . .THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY UNEQUAL TREATMENT!!!
Perception is Reality??? As long as no one says it/mention it. . it is is not happening???

I guess we need Big Brother to tell us it is DOUBLE PLUS GOOD!!

Diversity in the workplace is necessary to drive people towards social stability and tolerance. Seeing and working with someone different than you 8+ hours a day can break stereotypes more often than reinforcing them. I also believe that's the main difference between us and Europe despite Europe having a more liberal approach on diversity in paper or in ideal.

While it may make it more efficient, it's not necessary to run a business.

    I can agree with this.
    Hating is HARD WORK

Sitting across a job with someone for 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
It can get pretty rough to just sit there . .. hating them all that time.
After a while . . long for some than others. . . you kind of learn
to tolerate their very existance. .or maybe even learn to like them

of course you can always say . .HE DIFFERENT . .and you have you minority friend to say you have one *Grin*

I think diversity is a great plus for organizations and minorities and barriers are falling fairly rapidly.

That said, I don't think Affirmative Action in the work place is the best way to create diversity, in fact it's pretty terrible. As for educational institutions - I think it's fine for private institutions who want to create a great environment for their students...but I think public schools which are publically funded shouldn't necessarily follow the same approach.

I think it's great if people are interested to make use of it.

I would be effin bored if everyone in the office acted like me and resembled me and had the same thoughts and same cultural norms, bla bla bla.

This is how you learn to grow as a person, and that helps you become a better employee.

I wouldn't support Diversity over Quality, but I think in the end diverse quality is better than homogeneous quality.

Skin color, to me, is not interesting diversity. It's diversity of experiences, backgrounds and skills that can help in some situations.

I think it is great, beneficial, preferable, but not a necessity at least in the short term.

It's funny all this talk about affirmative action, but I think there has either been zero or one case where it was shown that a white lost out to an unqualified minority because of affirmative action.

Yet all the uproar about affirmative action is huge. The fact is in almost every case the minority candidate was qualified.

Now is your opportunity to prove it. Show me the court cases. Give me a list of proven examples where an unqualified person was given the job because they were a minority.
