From my understand. . . Being a Homosexual encompasses more than Same Sex Sex [i.e. the guy who does Gay p*rn but says he is not gay . . (his wife is in the biz too) or the men in the prison system] I think their is a culture, an attitude, maybe even self identification It is something . . . beyond a simple physical act. Do you believe other wise? Rocket River Andy Dufresne: I have no enemies here. Red: Yeah? Wait a while. Word gets around. The Sisters have taken quite a likin' to you. Especially Boggs. Andy Dufresne: I don't suppose it would help if I told them that I'm not homosexual. Red: Neither are they. You have to be human first. They don't qualify.
What are you even trying to say? I normally just ignore your posts due to your funky writing style but I read this one and now I have a brain freeze.
I'm trying to figure out if your post was you saying you don't approve of...something...or you do approve of something...I just don't get what you were trying to say at all by talking about prison butt secks and gay porno of married men.
I'm agreeing with RR, if the severity of discrimination matters at all. Being denied marriage can't compete with a couple centuries of slavery. If you want to equivocate between the two, one should stick to the 'its the principle of the thing' angle.
Treatment of homosexuals and treatment of blacks are not equal but they do have similarities. Both have been denied rights based on who they are. Both have been the victims of violence based on who they are. Both have been stereotyped in efforts to dehumanize them.
I'm not sure Deckard's original post (or any others that I've read) did equate the two in terms of severity of discrimination. I think Rocket River just jumped to that conclusion. Perhaps because of the history there may have been less inflammatory analogies, but the point remains.
Maybe your religion/parents/peers/society have taught you that it is an immoral choice, so if it turns out that it's not actually a choice, then that refutes the reason you've been given to be against it? (And yes, this was probably not what you meant by your question, but I figured I'd provide an answer anyway.)
I thought this was about how it is present day, and not how it was in the past? In the present day homosexual's have less rights then black people.
That is also wrong. It isn't a Christian's job to try to change an unbeliever or make them do the right thing. We are supposed to lead them to God, and God does the rest. The bible teaches that no amount of good works by a person can achieve salvation, so you're not going to fix someone by forcing them to stop doing it. Only God has the power to change a person. The way it works is that after we receive our salvation, then we go through a continuous process of spiritual transformation that remolds us from our old nature to become Christ-like. The problem with the "fixing" approach is that it tries to short-circuit the process, and the effect is that it ends up driving people away from God instead of drawing them to Him. Instead of people being attracted to your loving nature and Christ-like attributes, they are frustrated by their inability to overcome their natural desires and turned off by your condemning words. This is why many people end up being antagonistic towards Christians these days -- what was supposed to be the "good news" of the gospel has turned into bad news of condemnation.
Comparing homosexuals to black people is ridiculous. Homosexuals are born gay. Being black is a choice. I think gay people should be allowed to get married. Not "enter into a civil union", get married. And they should have all of the same rights that heterosexual married couples have. When half of all marriages end in divorce, what sanctity is there left to protect? Also, put me down in the "I think gay dudes are gross" column. I have gay friends, they're fun to hang out with, and they're just like any other guy friend I have, except they like to tongue-kiss other guys. That's the part that gets me. When I see two dudes kissing, I look away. The same way I'd look away if I saw someone eating a chunk of cat poop. Poop and another man's tongue are two things I'd never think to put in my mouth. But I wouldn't stop the poop-eater from getting married. I think the big issue is that homosexuality is viewed as "unnatural". The problem with that is homosexuality occurs in nature (which is the opposite of unnatural). Most gay people are born gay, and scientists have found gay animals. I highly doubt gay penguins are just "experimenting." Leave people alone to be happy. A wedding ceremony with two brides, both named Sebastian, doesn't affect you at all.
Bigotry knows no color. It knows no race. It knows no religion. It knows no gender. Bigotry surrounds us and you cannot point a finger at someone and say, "There stands a bigot!" Why? Because the bigot can be standing next to you, looking just like you, wearing a shirt bought at the same store you shop in, and you may never know he or she is a bigot until they open their mouth. One of the ironies for me in this thread is that there isn't a white, heterosexual male in this forum that has posted more often against bigotry, or had more personal experience witnessing bigotry than I have. Most of the people here aren't old enough to have seen "Whites Only" signs on the gate of the public swimming pool at their local park, or on the public bathroom door, or ridden numerous times on a Houston bus seeing the Blacks crowded in the back. Most aren't old enough. I am, witnessed it, and have said that here before. I've also witnessed discrimination against homosexuals. Sadly, that's common enough. The most bizarre thing to me was posting an image of a burnt Black person to make a "point," as if one couldn't post images here of murdered homosexuals. Google could show them to you in a second or less, and from around the world. Yes, irony abounds. Let's have a contest to see who's been discriminated against the most. That's what counts, right? The degree and the quantity? Not the discrimination itself? There are times I read things here and have a compulsion to take a very long shower, as if the filth comes off the display and lands on me in the process. If anyone is interested, it doesn't help much.
I'll accept the coloreds and the chinese. But I won't accept the Irish. (i'm sorry --- what was the question?).
exactly, I didn't say gays went through the same discrimination as african americans but in the end, both groups deserve the same rights regardless imo.
I'm conflicted. On one hand, I wish people would free themselves from the myths and silly superstitions of religion that are so often used to simultaneously justify and veil their bigotry. But on the other, it's kind of like watching a car wreck.
Pretty ridiculous question. I hope I'm misunderstanding you. That's like wondering if a minority who doesn't act his stereotype still defines him/herself as that minority. Whether they think or act a gay culture ultimately doesn't matter to what they do in the bedroom. Just like a white guy trying to act black is still white, or a gay bashing Republican church leader picking up escorts online is still gay.
that sucks that christians are born sinners. i was born a pure product of nature, totally free of sin. i chose to become the heathen i am today.
Voted 'Yes' for both questions. And I'm often stereotyped as being a person who would vote 'No' on both questions because of my other political viewpoints.
