we just signed smith last year, and that hasn't exactly been as successful as we'd liked, i think we're fine without peppers, i wouldn't mind one of their running backs though.
Texans may get by with DTs they have. I do think Peppers transforms the defense as he is a quicker pass rusher than Mario. Actual pressure would be nice and may make Robinson and Glover look better.
He's probably smarter than Smith also. Meaning they might try to fill out his game like theyre doing with Mario.
Can you imagine Peppers and Mario flip-flopping around the offensive line until they find the weakspot matchup that suits each of them best? Could you imagine having 2 guys that can dominate their matchup, even if it is only one spot. Can you imagine that poor tackle after having to lineup play after play after play with either Mario or Peppers banging on him. What's that poor guy gonna feel like in the 4th quarter? I am intrigued with the idea, as you can see. Add Peppers. Draft a corner/safety in the first round. Turn the QB into a scrambler and let Brian and Democo plug 'em up.
Remember what was the turning point for the Cowboys in the 90's? Adding Charles Haley. Nuff said. You have a chance to add Peppers, you do it, you do not hesitate.

I was at first very opposed to this idea. We need a good DT first and foremost...and I'd still prefer that we find a big name free agent there. But if not, the chance to add Peppers opposite Mario is one you have to go for if you can. Looking at some of the Super Bowl teams of late, you almost have to have two dynamic DE's in the 4-3 ... the Giants with Umenyiora/Strahan (and Justin Tuck to boot!), the Colts with Freeney/Mathis. Pallilo suggested something like a 2 yr/$30 million contract ... while it's very pricey, at least it's short team. he's the kind of guy that can put you over the hump.
Dunta Robinson made around $10 million last season, and Chester Pitts made around $3.6 million. Pitts is already gone, and I'd let Dunta walk if we could bring in Peppers instead.
This uncapped year is going to say a lot about how much McNair wants to win...the guy has made a ton of money off this city...It's about time he spends some on a big name. I'd rather put that money on a 30 year old DE (Peppers) then a 30 yr old RB (Tomlinson) I'd much rather put it all towards signing Wilfork also. I think that would help Mario and the entire defense much more. Either that or a stud Safety.
I see this as a rhetorical question ....The Texans need to make a big push for Peppers no doubt. Address CB in the first round and pick up a 20 25 carry RB via free agancy or whatever (while drafting Blount in the 3rd round or so) too....while moving Robinson to FS.(ala Lott and Woodson)
I wasn't sold on Dunta being a FS, but I now value GQ much more at corner and Dunta could be better than decent at FS, along with Pollard. I'll take that...Plus it allows us to keen on some players that might get bumped down to fill needs better.
I believe the injury was so serious it may be hard for him to come back. If he's back it will be for very little money I think.
the guy was never hurt until this thing happened and was arguably the most consistent lineman they have ever had. They need to seriously consider bringing him back.
