Seriously doubt we would go after Peppers after signing Smith to a large contract last year; and on that note Smith started playing pretty well later in the season after the team told him to just be himself. I'm good with our ends, where we need the upgrades are DT, CB and hopefully we resign Pollard
Simple Answer: Yes I want him Are we going to get him: No, he's going to command alot of money that we don't have to allocate at the DE position.
This. Not to mention that fact that Peppers will probably look for a Super Bowl calibur team since it'll be one of his last contracts. Not saying that we're not SB calibur but I bet there will be two or three better teams seeking his services.
Other than Mario he is 10 times better than anything we have on the line but I agree Peppers will want to break the bank. If I had to guess I would say he's heading to New England because they tried to get him last year and then Carolina placed the tag on him.
Not interested in Peppers. As long as our tackles are wet paper, it won't matter. We've got to plug the hole and give Mario a chance. You'd also free up the LB corps to blitz more often. Spend the money and chase Wilfork, Hampton, Seymour, or Pickett.
Using simple math: Peppers > Antonio Smith Any top FA DT >>>>>>> Our DTs Breaking the bank for a top DT or CB makes a lot more sense.
Yes, want. Doubt the Texans will give him the money he wants. He's the best player I've heard that will hit free agency. I think Peppers instantly turns the Texans from a bottom third sack team into a top third sack defense. Best part is that Mario can easily flip to the strong side. Antonio can flip to the inside. I think someone like Cody out of Bama becomes more of a priority if the Texans do this.
I like this idea but is it even resonable to tie up that much of the salary cap in the dline? Signing Peppers and drafting Cody + Mario, Antonio and Amobi's contracts.......$$$$$
If the Texans could somehow get Peppers at a decent price, and also sign Wilfork. You'd have a monstrosity for a defensive line, I would even say that the line would be better than Vikings.
No. And here's why (besides the Smith contract) If you watched a lot of games this season, you will notice that Mario beats his man on lots of plays during the game, but all the QB does is step up in the pocket to avoid the pass rush because our WEAK defensive tackles get absolutely ZERO penetration. I bet Mario could have doubled his sack numbers if we actually got some pressure down the middle. So I don't think another great DE is going to solve our line issues. Would love a big, aggressive DT
it would be a dream if we would put out the money to sign Wilfork and Peppers.... Mario, Wilfork, Smith/Okoye and Peppers... That would be sick....but it's never gonna happen
He'll yes we want Peppers. Our whole D line gets better if we have a pass rushing threat at each end.
Uncapped year? He will be a Cowboy or a Redskin. Not sure I like the whole uncapped year thing; the lack of a salary cap coupled with a few other things has killed my interest in baseball. A free market is great in the real world but in the sports world it is completely unfair.
here it is a video, posted a month ago in NFL.com that discuss the uncapped year. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d815626e6/Impact-of-uncapped-year-in-2010 EDIT: here it is an article too, with that video.
