Someone with length has more of an impact... look at the West right now. Everyone with the exception of Memphis is a high scoring team. Every team has a clutch player. Defense is what will separate teams in the playoffs and why OKC, LAC and SAS are above the rest.
Yes to Battier for the locker room presence and brains on the court, no as a defensive specialist. I'd do it just to inject some offensive IQ into the roster and hope it rubs off on Dwight, one of the PFs, Lin... hell the entire team plays like a dumb AAU team. Do it.
