why are ppl saying griffin's not a back to the basket player? he's not a face up shooter and he doesn't get 20 pts a game on put backs. he plays almost exclusively with his back to the basket. and no one can stop him, you have to double team him. that's what all the other teams are doing.
Chuck is single-handedly the only player that is capable of containing Griffin. No one else in the league has the skills to do what Chuck is capable of doing. I'm surprised at the amount of people who continue to under-estimate what the Chuck wagon brings. Defensively he is ELITE. Prepare to see Griffin surprised.
Obviously he's most effective in the post...duh. I don't have any stats up but from some of the games I've watched he's not that good of a shooter in mid-court and further. I figure that since we don't look towards chuck as an offensive weapon, we should just have him push griffin out o mid and pressure/allow him to make thiose jumpers as much as possible
How many of his baskets come from his backing the opposing player down and then shooting or hooking over them, versus facing up and using his quickness to get around the defender?
Either Hill or Hayes.....but that kids a beast and he will get his either way, lets just hope non of the rockets end up on a poster somewhere!!
I'm going to this game. Go Rockets. On that note, I believe Chuck can contain Griffin. I'm not saying he will but its very possible the Chuckster can shut down Blake. Who still remembers that game where Amare was shut down by the Chuck? What makes this situation different? Isn't Griffin like a more explosive Amare without a jumpshot?
Kurt Thomas managed to slow him down, just kept him out of the paint which is way easier than it sounds.
Way harder I mean, although Blake didn't really manage to get back into the paint apart from rebounding attempts. Also need to be careful with fouls, Blake is a flopper.
i love the chuckwagon but u guys are giving him way too much credit. you guys believe griffin isn't going to be able to back chuck into the paint? you really think we're gonna let chuck play him one on one and not double him?
Initially, no double. Same strategy like when we were playing the Knicks. If Griffin goes off, he gets a double team. But he's also a pretty good passer, so Rockets may prefer to defend him 1-on-1. I think the area where Chuck may struggle the most is keeping him off the offensive boards.
I think any of the good centers can definitely take him, Dwight Howard obviously, Pau Gasol, etc. Contrary to what ppl seem to think, Griffin mainly plays with his back to the basket and overpowers his defenders. He rarely faces up and tries to use his speed to get around his opponents. He doesn't have the handles for it. So he's not gonna be running by the centers. When Griffin does try to use his speed, it's usually a spin move but he's out of control most of the time he does that.
