Do you think the Steelers or the Cowboys could of won those Super Bowls without Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman's stellar playoff performances? I mean sure they were not the best players on their teams but they were still cornerstones of the franchises and the steady hand that guided the ship... we need that!

I mean if we are thinking of winning a Super Bowl with the core of Watt, Johnson and Foster our QB will probably never be the best player on the team but if he is Troy Aikman we are right where we need to be.

i forgot about Bledsoe being the backup lol

I get that you can get a good QB later in the draft but you can also get a great defensive player later in the draft.

Bradshaw, a hall of famer, a good player who has more SB rings than the others on your list, is at best, the second worst QB on your list. If you put Bradshaw on any other team besides the Steelers or Cowboys in his era, he wouldn't have won anything and would have gone down as a big mouthed bust.

There is no more pure team sport than Football. 22 different players playing major plays for their teams in addition to a kicker, punter, a punt returner, a kick returner, and a couple more key dudes on the special teams unit. One great QB won't win anything.

I agree with everything you said... I think your post should be addressed to the original poster (K_low for prez).

I don't think Bradshaw or Aikman deserve to be in the HOF any more so than Drew Bledsoe... the only difference is that the first two played on great teams that gave them a chance to play in Super Bowls.

Yes, I do think a "good" QB that wasn't a #1 overall pick could have still won those Super Bowls, and is capable of stellar playoff performances.

I think Joe Flacco, Drew Brees, Ben Rothlesberger, Tom Brady, Brad Johnson (heh), Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, and Steve Young (the last 8 non #1 pick QB's to win SB's) have all shown that you need a good QB, and a great team, to win super bowls. You also need your QB to play well in the playoffs/SB to win.

Again, drafting a QB #1 doesn't guarantee anything. Its still about getting the right guy, and having the right system for that guy, regardless of where you find him.

He had two 300 yard passing games in Super Bowls in an era where the best passing team in the NFL averaged 210 passing YPG...

He out dueled Frank Tarkenton in one Super Bowl and Roger Staubach in 2 others, those were two of the best QBs of that generation!

he was major reason they were as successful as they were!

He doesn't even get a chance to get to those SB's if he wasn't on an amazing team.

Career rating of 70.9. TD/INT ratio of 212/210.

Like I said before, you can have guys like Flacco, Eli Manning, and Terry Bradshaw that show up big in the big games... but all of those guys need teams with superb talent to even get there.

Bradshaw's Steeler teams had how many hall-of-fame players on it?? Absolutely they could have won with a different QB. And dare I say...they may have won even 1 or 2 more rings with a different qb.

Yes, Aikman's Cowboy teams would have won those rings if they had Jim Kelly, Steve Young, or Brett Favre at the controls. Absolutely. Stan Humphries and Neil O'donnell may have won a ring with those guys. Doesn't mean Aikman was trash. Aikman was good. But Kelly was just as good. Dallas was a TEAM! They had all those offensive weapons around Troy and they had decent D.

13 of the last 25 Super Bowls have been won by QBs not drafted in the first round. 23 of the 47 Super Bowls have been won by QBs not drafted in the first round.

From 1967 to 2012 there have been 95 QBs drafted in the first round. 14 of them have won SBs. That's 15%.

20 QBs have been taken with the first pick in the draft since 1967. They are:

    Terry Bradshaw
    Jim Plunkett
    Steve Bartkowski
    John Elway
    Vinny Testaverde
    Troy Aikman
    Jeff George
    Drew Bledsoe
    Peyton Manning
    Tim Couch
    Michael Vick
    David Carr
    Carson Palmer
    Eli Manning
    Alex Smith
    JaMarcus Russell
    Matthew Stafford
    Sam Bradford
    Cam Newton
    Andrew Luck

That's 20 guys selected #1. 7 of them have won a SB. You could make an argument that Luck, Newton, Stafford, and Smith may win a SB in the future. 50/50.
