Do we absolutely HAVE to have Mike James?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by DaDakota, Jul 8, 2006.

?

Do we positively HAVE to have Mike James even at the expense of a max MLE deal?

  1. Yes - the 2 or 3 good years he gives us would be worth it.

  2. No - Sign him for 3 years, but we have had enough bad contracts

Mike James makes absolutely no difference on the Mavs. They are loaded with great combo guards, and he is just another great combo guard. The only reason Dallas is chasing him is to keep him from the Rockets.

Hillarious. Somebody doesn't know how to read stats. 82games.com shows statistically that James is a better defender than Hinrich. But you can make of it what you want. And Jason Terry is also not a better defender than James.

By the way, those individual on court/off court stats on 82games.com for individuals only show how good they are when combined with the rest of the team. It really does not indicate how good of a defensive player that an individual player is.

Anybody in their right mind could watch games and see that James is a far superior defender to both Terry and Hinrich. Watson???? You may have an argument although he is an undersized point guard. Chauncey??? Possibly?? Kidd??? Dude, the only defense he plays better is post up defense because he is 6'4". He does not have James lateral quickness.

You are stretching to come up with 5. Even if I gave you all 5 of them, James is still right there. You can be biased against him but be reasonable. He is one of the top defensive point guards in the NBA.

I have watched the games, in Houston and in Toronto. Mike James is a great scorer and an above-average defensive combo guard. Look at the defensive effective FG%. I don't care how atrocious Toronto's defense is, no lockdown defender allows his opponent a 53% effective FG%. That means he makes the average player he faces look like Tony Parker. He was much better than that in Houston, but then he was normally facing the opponents second team.

Mike would be a great addition but there are other players to be had that would propably contribute just as well. If you were to have taken Ronald Murray or Jamal Crawford and placed them in Toronto last year with starter minutes there stats would have been much better than they currently are. And both could propably be had given the right conditions. I believe both would greatly improve the 2 guard spot, but that is just my opinion. Don't give up on the Rockets just yet. The management is much smarter than ya'll give them credit for. They want to win too you know.

    Yo RoxFan4 -

You've got to be joking!! Rox Management is the laughingstock of the NBA after the trade they made. I have not yet seen anyone outside the ROX organization or on their "payroll" (see Houston Chron) who has anything but disdain for the lopsided nature of our "draft day bonanza"   !!

After screwing ourselves out of a future All Star and depth, I say YES we abosolutely HAVE TO GET MJ if we're going to avoid a 4th place finish in our division and another trip to the lottery...

Of course, maybe the "management" is just smart enough to have planned just such a course!!

If James ends up bypassing us, I sure hope we get Murray. He'd be a nice 12-14 ppg scorer who can drive and shoot the ball.

I think you are underestimating the talent of Yao and McGrady. If we have any kind of improvement over the aging Wesely at the 2 we will be considerable better than last year minus all the injuries of course. When healthy last yr the Rockets looked great and that was with Wes. Imagine a younger more durable 2 guard with the accuisition of Shane Bat and things are looking prettty good even if that added guard isn't MJ. You could be right about Gay or WRONG. It's a gamble several teams weren't wanting to take.
I BELIEVE in the Rockets and we won't be back in the lotto!! That's a laugher.

Who cares about avoiding the lottery....we want to win championships....james would give us another "piece" of the puzzle. And if we get some guy (i.e. flip murray) he is not at the level that james is
