Yes, they have dialed it back in a few recent games but, far too often they hoist up 3s when they don't have a open shot or the person shooting is barely average at that range. Can't think of any Championship team that has ever won with there offense based solely around the jump shot, although it looks like we are moving away from that.
((These threads are why I love Clutchfans)) Is there a statistic that shows "long rebounds leading to transition points"? I know that's a stretch, but I would be curious to see how much it hurts us defensively. From a strictly offensive standpoint, I am okay with the 3's as long as we shoot a moderately high percentage which we have accomplished by shooting 36.7%. If it led to more offensive rebounding opportunities due to long rebounds, I would be more satisfied.
At first I said no, but now I think yes. In the playoffs, defensive pressure is turned up. Teams will play the Rockets tight and try to contest every single shot. If the Rockets can't get any open looks from three, then what? Iso Harden? I think they should stick to what's been working all year and continue taking those threes. The focus should be on grabbing offensive rebounds. Jones looked great last night and I think we could take a good team to 7 games if he continues to play at this level.
That was my initial doubt. We make 10.6 per game but that's in average. We have to look at deviation. Do we make 17 in one game and 3 the next? Then that's steaky and won't help us if we want to consistantly win games. If I'm not too lazy I will dig up percentage of mid range jumpers and 3 pointers every game and graph it to see their their distribution. If our jumper percentage is all over the place, of course we'll want to stick with more 3 pointers.
If you shoot 20 3 pointers at 35%, that still gives you more points than shooting 20 2 pointers at 50%.
