If you prioritise someone only due to race, it means you discriminate against someone else due to race. So it is clearly racist.

No I don’t mean that. You’ve never experienced that either. Nor has anyone you know. Its real simple. There is no excuse for racism toward anyone.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was thinking about her observations mainly, which seem fine.

If she's absolutely denying interviews based on reporter skin color, that's going to be hard to justify for a public official, LOL. But if she's just prioritizing certain interviews, well... welcome to American politics. You have people in this country signing legislation in exclusive cable TV programming now.

Let's said a city has 10M people. 75% Green and 25% Blue race. They are at risk of a new deadly disease and a vaccine is available. For the first 1M vaccination, 90% of them went to the Blue race because they simply have better access. The city manager comes out and said we need to priority vaccination of the Green race.

    Is that clearly racist?

The answer is yes. Black people do get a pass for being racists. That being said, I think Tulsi is being r****ded in this case. Nothing racist about what the mayor said. She was just stating the obvious and rectifying it.

"a person who shows or feels discrimination or prejudice against people of other races, or who believes that a particular race is superior to another"

The definition itself is not narrow enough IMO. I think of racist as someone that believe they are superior to another. Prejudice IMO is closer to ignorance, often grounded in fear and doesn't raise to the level of racist, but I get why people use the terms so liberally given the standard definition.

    No that's not clearly racist.

With the information in you paradigm you say it yourself "because they simply have better access".
So that's not racism UNLESS you add that they have better access due to their race.
They can have better access due to multiple reasons that have nothing to do with racism. For example if the distribution is done by a private company and they sell the vaccines for a huge price who will access them first? Those who can easily afford them.

Unless the green race has been barred access to the vaccines solely based on their race that's not racism.

I disagree with malakas. While most of it is not racist, the city manager saying they are going to prioritize access for green people is clearly racist. Policy should not consider race. Any policy designed to benefit one race specifically is inherently to the detriment of all others, and thus racist. Everyone should be treated equally under the law, regardless of the outcome. So, requiring ID to vote = not racist. Requiring purple skin to vote = racist. Very simple.

I guess if you think affirmative action is racist, you'll see this as racist.

FWIW This is all political theatre by Lightfoot. She is not very popular in the black community in Chicago. She is viewed as out of touch with the poorer black areas of Chicago. She knows she will not win re-election without strong support in black neighborhoods.

She inherited a mess from Daley and Emanuel and has been behind the 8 ball since day 1. I don’t think she has been especially effective but dealing with institutional poverty in Chicago, a corrupt police force, severe income inequality and an aging population isn’t easy for a first term mayor.

Interesting analysis. The little I know about Chicago politics is the word Daley, some stuff about judges needing Irish surnames so the local DNC will fund their campaign, and Walter Mondale getting racial slurs thrown at him for doing a photo op with Harold Washington.

Living in Chicago is interesting. It is still an incredibly racist town and black people are marginalized at a level that is jaw dropping. The politicians are corrupt and the police department largely decides the fate of the mayor.

Lightfoot has to walk the line of keeping the police force happy (or they will purposely let crime go) and also satisfy black voters who often do not like the police force.

The mayorship of Chicago is a terrible job.
