We all know the history of racism of the DNC from the Civil war through The Civil Rights movement..but this is a bit late..
If Perryman wants from this lawsuit is an admission and apology - I think if I was a part of the DNC, I'd be okay with that.

DNC, Obama sued for record of racism and violating black civil rights
Posted by Jack Minor • September 28, 2011

A black researcher and best-selling author has filed a class-action lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee and President Barack Obama, alleging the party has engaged in a systematic policy of racism over the years.

The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court in Seattle by Reverend Wayne Perryman. Perryman heads up a consulting firm that specializes in fact-finding investigations on behalf of inner-city plaintiffs who are unsuccessful in obtaining representation through law firms and community organizations.

Perryman has also written several books, including a series of children’s storybooks that were the first of their kind to be placed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library.

The 46-page brief systematically lists examples illustrating 210 years of racist statements and actions by the Democratic Party. The suit begins with showing how Democratic President Andrew Johnson “carried out the Democrat agenda by attempting to veto other key pieces of Civil Rights legislation that were designed to give and protect the constitutional rights of African Americans.”

The suit cites the collective work of over 350 legal scholars and includes Congressional records, opinions from the NAACP, racist statements from Democratic elected officials, citations from speeches from by Barack Obama and other information.

Perryman said his purpose in filing the suit is to force the party to acknowledge and apologize for its racist past. “Any organization that has such a racist history and receives 97 percent of the African American vote after doing all they could to deny blacks the right to vote, should willingly apologize without being forced do so through a lawsuit.” Perryman said, “I guess they feel they have nothing to apologize for.”

Perryman also states that the defendants failed to disclose their racist history by omitting information showing that the DNC, as a party, and as individuals were opposed to abolitionists, supported the Fugitive Slave Act Laws, the Dredd Scott decision, Jim Crow laws and Black Codes in the south.

The brief also says Democrats started and supported several terrorist organizations including the Ku Klux Klan. Various Democrats also argued against the passage of the 1964 Civil rights Act.

Regarding the Klan, Perryman references debates on the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871. Quoting Sen. William Stoughton(R-Mi), the brief states, “The Ku Klux Klan organization exists throughout the State, has a political purpose and is composed of members of the Democratic or Conservative Party.”

Stoughton went on to say, “We may concede, Mr. Speaker, that if this system of violence is to continue in the South, the Democratic Party will secure the ascendancy.”

The brief did not simply list examples from the time of the Civil War, but went on to list examples of recent administrations including those of Lyndon Johnson and President Obama.

During a conversation with Richard Russell of Georgia, the brief claims Lyndon Johnson said, “These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they got something now that they never had before; the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down; not enough to make a difference. For if we don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there will be no way of stopping them.... and there’ll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again.”

The brief also cites Obama’s August bus tour, noting that the President “intentionally and specifically chose to ignore and exclude cities and towns that had high black unemployment.”

Rep. Maxine Waters, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, agreed with Perryman’s statement saying, “He’s not in any black community.”

The brief points out that the DNC was formed in 1848. That same year the Democratic Party’s presidential campaign ran with the slogan, “This is a White Man’s Country – Let the White Men Rule.” Perryman said it was significant that to this day the Democratic Party has not condemned the statement.

Perryman filed the lawsuit on Sept. 12 and Obama and the DNC were officially served on the 14th. The plaintiffs have 60 days to respond to the suit.

Isn't there a statute of limitations on this kind of stuff? Obama is supposed to apologize for Jefferson Davis?

That seems like a relevant question to me. If Perryman is going to sue the DNC shouldn't he look at the totality of the DNC's history. Further since Obama is a party to the lawsuit who wasn't alive for most of the DNC's history shouldn't he look at the the DNC's actions during the time Obama was alive.

Finally why just focus on suing the DNC? Shouldn't he sue the US government as a whole for having slavery as a legal institution for the first 89 years of its existence and not granting minorities full rights for for 188 years of its existence?

I personally think the lawsuit is Silly, especially suing Obama - as if Obama doesn't have the best intentions for all people, especially minorites. I don't know what Perryman's politics are, but, and just playing devils advocate here, he may argue that since then, the DNC decided the best way to keep minorities down is to coddle and enable them. - seems to be a common arguement on that side of things.
I guess the reason I responded that way, is because some posters have a tendency, and a history, of being condescending and rude towards others..and I may have taken the post the wrong way.

I could be wrong, but didn't the U.S. Government already apologized a few years ago? Led by the Democrats at that.
